A Guide to the Fictional Books Mentioned in the World of Mermaid Princess Amelia from Maxine Foti’s Fantasy Series

If you have read the first novel in the Mermaid Princess Amelia saga, “Mermaid Princess Amelia and the Lost Symphony,” as well as its accompanying story collection (and articles such as this one on this blog), you may already be familiar with the educational institutions of the mermaid world. The merpeople from the series highly value knowledge and learning. And as an intelligent species that values education above all else, they have several books available in all genres.

Fictional Books Mentioned in the World of Mermaid Princess Amelia

In “Mermaid Princess Amelia and the Lost Symphony,” Amelia Quintana, accompanied by her friends visited Sawa Zielinska’s antique bookshop, where they perused through numerous publications. Amelia did us a favor and mentioned titles such as:

  • Everything you need to know about your Tail,
  • The Medicinal Properties of the Pineapplefish,
  • The Ornaments of Seaweed and Fishing Nets,
  • The Pearl on the Volcano (which, as we learn later, was Mewa Zielinska’s mermaid book as well, and it narrated the tale of Momi, a mermaid whose name meant a pearl and who climbed a volcano)
  • The Tear and the Fish Scale (a sad novel being one of Amelia’s favorites),
  • Alexander Morce’s The Sea Dynasties (from which Amelia learned about her family in Nerland),
  • The Night County of Nerland.

Unfortunately, there wasn’t enough time for Amelia to delve deeper into the books at Sawa’s antique bookshop due to the abundance of adventures she embarked on.

However, in the first story collection of the series, more books were introduced, and this time, they were described in great detail. Let’s start with the list and then move on to the descriptions, as there’s a lot to tell:

  • Lihiriental Sea Tales
  • Treasure of Mathematics
  • The Great Aegean Encyclopedia
  • The Antemidian Art of War
  • The Ancient Text about the Heart of the World
  • The Priestess’ Manual
  • Undersea Edition of the Twenty Thousand Leagues under the Sea by Jules Verne

Lihiriental Sea Tales

When Ehsan Kaspian and Edith Dvali became friends in the third story from the collection, Ehsan had told her about the “Lihiriental Sea Tales” – a collection of mermaid fairytales inspired by the famous One Thousand and One Nights, one which enjoyed immense popularity in both Lihirient and Delshad, the mermaid countries.

Treasure of Mathematics

Another book mentioned within the context of Delshad is the “Treasure of Mathematics.” Saliffa Hatim received this book as a prenuptial gift from Ehsan. He mentioned that it was written by innovative mathematicians whose theories were both well-grounded and proven. As Saliffa opened the box and took out the book, she noticed that its cover was adorned with a heavy encrustation of gold, pearls, and gems, making it appear more like a work of art than just a mere mathematics book.

The Great Aegean Encyclopedia

Moving on to other educative books, as Poseyda Eos was speaking with Thalassa Athanasiou in their high school’s column hall, she spotted that the mermaid had a pocket edition of the “The Great Aegean Encyclopedia.” Poseyda recognized the book, having previously seen Jayden Ptolemeus Katharos studying it for a knowledge contest, which he eventually won.

Another book that was mentioned in the first story collection is the “The Antemidian Art of War.” Needless to say, its owner was Chief General Asvald Altamira. He was reading this strategic book in his office when Tikalie Uxmal swam in to tell him that she wanted to resign from the post of the elective princess. It was surprising that he agreed, but maybe it was all part of a bigger plan – one can never be sure when it comes to books like this! Undoubtedly, the inspiration behind the Antemidian art of war was Sun Tzu’s “Art of War.”

The Ancient Text about the Heart of the World and the The Priestess’ Manual

Intriguingly, there are religious books as well, mentioned. For example, Saliffa used an ancient text to study the Language of the Heart, which would get her closer to understanding the Heart of the World (her god). And Nubia Khaled had a ritual book that she referred to as the priestess manual. This book specifically contained information on organizing rituals for the ancient Egyptian gods. It was the very same book that Nubia Khaled had used to perform the ritual for Seth, which the mermaid pharaoh had requested her to do.

Undersea Edition of the Twenty Thousand Leagues under the Sea by Jules Verne

And finally, it’s worth noting that certain literary classics of the human world have also become a part of the undersea world’s literature. Upon moving into his grandfather’s submarine, Jet Mir Thakur was delighted to discover a library stocked with numerous books from all over the world, written in various languages. One was the “Twenty Thousand Leagues under the Sea” by Jules Verne. The book is about the mysterious Captain Nemo, who rejected civilization on land and sought refuge on board a submarine, similar to Jet Mir, although their motives were different.

Final Thoughts on the Fictional Books Mentioned in the World of Mermaid Princess Amelia:

The world-building in Mermaid Princess Amelia’s fantasy series is truly impressive. The attention to detail is so meticulous that there are even books dedicated to exploring the various facets of this unique universe. It’s a testament to the depth and complexity of the world that it can support its own literature.

It’s not hard to imagine that one day, like JK Rowling did with the magical creatures in Harry Potter, Maxine Foti may write books that further explore and expand the undersea world of Mermaid Princess Amelia even more. The possibilities are endless, and it’s exciting to think about what kind of stories and adventures could be waiting to be told. With such a rich and imaginative universe to draw from, there’s no doubt that the potential for new and exciting tales is infinite.
