Thalassa Athanasiou is a character from Mermaid Princess Amelia fantasy series by Maxine Foti. She made her first appearance in the “Stories from the Undersea World of Mermaid Princess Amelia.”

Thalassa is a young mermaid from the Argolic Gulf. She attends the Children of Poseidon’s High School, together with Poseyda Eos. She was close friends with her, and Elena Laskaris, and Mara Leventis.

Thalassa was described as a short, plump mermaid with wavy brown hair gathered in a high ponytail and amber green eyes hidden behind round glasses. She wore a white uniform with a blue vest and her tail was lime green.

At school, Thalassa had the bad luck of being in the class together with two former classmates that disliked her. Because of their gossip and envy over her academic performance, she was ostracized very fast.

Poseyda was one of the few merpeople at the school that didn’t care what others said about Thalassa. She considered Thalassa good friend, and after one and a half a year the two became best friends, and often talked about school matters.

After Thalassa’s mother got engaged to the father of Kostas Petrakis, Thalassa felt nervous about suddenly getting an older brother. Poseyda tried to comfort her saying, Kostas was a nice person.

Thalassa was the one who started their friends’ club. She was in charge of keeping their club’s pouch. Inside was their club book, a pen, and a hand painted pebble which was the speaking object.

The club meetings started with the girls sitting on the designated places on the floor, and changing a song together. After this, the girls reported to Thalassa about their weeks and she wrote it down. Thalassa knew Poseyda’s news earlier than everyone else because the two were in the same school together.

Thalassa was shocked by the news of the teachers’ strike. She wanted it to end as soon as possible and return to school.

Thalassa was very crafty. She made bracelets with shells and beads for her friends, and she was also interested in miniature ship building, a hobby she wanted to start with her soon to be brother, Kostas.

Thalassa is Poseyda’s closest friend at school. They became friends in the first semester and are now “almost inseparable.” Thalassa is described as serious, hardworking, polite, and sweet. She is the one who started their club and serves as its unofficial leader. Poseyda and Thalassa support each other through academic struggles and personal dramas.
