King Amadeus Santoro is the reigning monarch of Atlantis, a distant and largely unseen sovereign whose presence is felt mainly through the wreckage of his family.
He was first married to Queen Estella, who bore him a daughter, Samantha, and a son, Silas. After Estella’s death, he took a second wife, Donna Calida, and with her produced two more sons—Dominic and Dorian Calidus—both of whom are described as corrupt and thoroughly aligned with their mother’s faction.
He also adopted two boys from among his friends, Augustus and Silas, though Augustus was never considered a “real” brother by Samantha, and his adoptive status was deliberately omitted from her accounts of the family.
It is this omission—the king’s identity and the adoption—that Samantha worked to conceal, even rattling off four inconsistent names for her brothers to cover her tracks.
Amadeus himself never appears on the page and speaks no dialogue; he is a genealogical and political fact, the patriarch whose marriages and paternity produced the tangled loyalties and betrayals that drive the story’s Atlantean conflict.
His kingdom is the one Samantha schemes to raise, his sons are the ones thrown into the pit for treason, and his bloodline—both biological and adoptive—is the fault line along which the family, and the war, divide.
