Name: Amelia Quintana.
Mermaid kingdom: Antemidia (The Caribbean Sea).
Birthday: 02.11.1992.
Age: (It’s year 2008 in the book, so she is) 16 years old.
Occupation: Elective Mermaid Princess (“Her Limpidity”) of Antemidia, high school student in Portugal.
Looks as human: She is 163 cm tall and weighs 65 kg. She has tanned skin, narrow dark jade green eyes, and middle length hair of the same color, with two turquoise strands. She chooses classical clothing in different dark colors (check the palette below).
Looks as mermaid: In Antemidia, she usually dresses in royal robes (mostly turquoise) and wears a glass crown. Her tail is turquoise with three characteristical stripes on her fin.
Personality: From an early age, Amelia was under the heavy influence of the Council of the Elderly Generals (the real rules of Antemidia). This made her grow into an ambitious ruler who wants to turn their country into the most important power in the Atlantic Ocean. She is very serious about this goal. As a private person, she is a mystery. She seldom shares what she really thinks or feels. Sometimes she lies – even (or maybe I should say mostly) to herself. However, she is a good-hearted person that is willing to listen with empathy and help everyone she can, even the ones she doesn’t know or doesn’t like. She genuinely cares about her friends and plans to open up to them in the future.
Interests: Amelia’s greatest passion is Antemidian Striking Art (ASA), a martial art quite similar to karate. In fact, when Amelia moves on Earth, she joins the local karate team so as not to lose her skills in ASA. Apart from this, Amelia enjoys learning new things and hanging out with her friends. She’d sometimes sneak out with her friends Tony and Araminta to dance in an underwater reggaeton club.
Family: Initially, Amelia’s parents are unknown. She learns their identities in the last chapters of the first novel in the series. She also discovers that she has a sister – her name is Lumina. Amelia and Lumina’s relationship is really complicated. Amelia can’t trust Lumina, as it keeps being unclear whether Lumina’s her enemy or ally. What’s more, Lumina’s place of residence and phone number is unknown, which makes communication limited.
Best friends: Araminta and Tony. Araminta is a scholarship student from Atlantis and Tony is the stylist’s assistant.
Love interest: Right now, it’s unclear who is Amelia’s love interest. Amelia doesn’t think much about love, which will change in the next parts of the series.
Trivia:
- Amelia has a well developed sixth sense. Nobody knows, so she may appear irrational.
- Amelia is actually only half Antemidian – she is Antemidian after her father, and Nerlandian after her mother, which lets her rule two powerful siren states on Atlantic: Antemidia and Nerland.
- Amelia’s favorite novels are The Pearl on the Volcano and The Tear and The Fish Scale.
- Amelia speaks three languages: Spanish, Ancient Antemidian and Oceanic. She is learning English, Portuguese and German, but without much success so far.
