„Mermaid Princess Amelia and the Lost Symphony,” is a very complex novel. While most other books are linear, with the plot revolving around the main character and their friends, antagonists, and final goal, “Mermaid Princess Amelia” is similar to the Arabian classic of “1001 Nights,” in which every character met has a separate story.
When reading about Amelia’s adventures, we are indirectly experiencing countless different stories. This helps create a truly immersive experience, and makes the novel feel like an open-world adventure, where the main character talks to different people and learns even more about the world that they live in.
In this article, we will be looking at the winners and the losers of the novel. Let’s start with the latter ones to be able to end this article with a positive accent.
THE LOSERS
Jet Mir Thakur – Jet Mir failed the artifact hunt by betting on Amelia; on top of that, his sisters betrayed him, and everything that he had gathered, was stolen by Lumina. Even though he had reached the Mausoleum, he gained neither power nor wealth, and is still an exiled prince, unjustly accused of mass murder, who will continue to be a vagabond until justice doesn’t get mercy on him. Hopefully, his fates turn around in the next novels from the “Mermaid Princess Amelia” fantasy series.
Davika Thani – If you look past Amelia’s instant dislike towards her person, you’ll see, Davika is actually to be pitied. If the story was written from her perspective, it would be filled with plenty of drama and pain. Even though nobody calls Davika the leader of the Santa Ana Mermaids, we can consider her to be one, as she’s the most bossy mermaid in the team, who has great influence. She loses it with time, though. Nobody wants to take her (just) warnings seriously, not even Edith. Davika’s family loses the artifact, and at the end, she’s forced to face her greatest fears: swim to the mausoleum and confront the death of her aunt. Davika grieves alone, and can’t find solace even in her kingdom – she isn’t a princess, only a mere lady-in-waiting. Despite her charismatic personality, intelligence, and beauty, she never gets to be the leader she’d like to be. Sad, isn’t it?
Marzia Mond – The mother of Amelia and Lumina, is the most misfortunate character of the novel, one whose bad luck affects literally everyone around. Her failed marriage ended with her husband disappearing, and her first daughter running away from home. The love affair she had didn’t fare much better, she had to break up with her lover, and get rid of her second daughter. The attempt to somehow bring her first daughter back cost her life – she died a tragic death together with three of four her friends, and her lover, who went after her, became imprisoned for many years. Very few characters are as misfortunate as Marzia Mond, which begs for the question: what was it that she had done, to earn such bad karma?
THE WINNERS
Lumina Mond – Even though Amelia is the protagonist, the ultimate victory in the artifact hunt goes to her older sister, Lumina. She also avenges her mother’s death and finds her younger sister, Amelia – which were her greatest goals. Had she been the hero of this novel, everything would go smoothly for her. But she doesn’t win because she’s inherently good – rather, because she’s smart, highly independent and fearless, not afraid to break rules and even the law.
Amelia Quintana – Even though Amelia went through several hardships, her scratches were just superficial. All of her friends survive, and she saves additional three lives in the course of her adventures. She proves herself as a good person and her bad deeds are forgiven by everyone. Even though she failed at the mission, she matured emotionally, gained a new family and made many great friends – which brought her much joy.
Edith Dvali – It’s a controversial opinion, but actually, Edith is a bit of a scapegoat in the novel. Even though she’s kind, mature and resourceful, for most of the time she stands in the shadow of her friend Davika. Almost everyone refuses to accept her relationship with Jet Mir, and support him, which leads to their break-up. Edith’s fortunes change for the better only once Amelia shows up. By teaming up with her, Edith gets a new best friend and supporter, and is finally free to talk about her emotions. By the end of the novel, she gets her boyfriend back and reunites with her friend, having made new ones on the way.
Interesting, wasn’t it? We have already written so many articles, but there’s always more and more to talk about. “Mermaid Princess Amelia and the Lost Symphony” is truly a multi-faceted novel.
