In the world of Mermaid Princess Amelia, the mermaid kingdom of Antemidia is surrounded by many other undersea countries. As described in the first novel of the series, “Mermaid Princess Amelia and the Lost Symphony,” and in the “Stories from the Undersea World of Mermaid Princess Amelia,” these neighboring countries have unique cultures that make them very distinct from Antemidia.
From the friendly merpeople of the Gulf of Mexico to the controversial inhabitants of the Territory of Ancora, each country has its own mermaid charm that adds to the vibrant and beautiful world making up the world of Mermaid Princess Amelia. Are you ready to dive deeper into the topic and learn more? We hope so!
Antemidia’s neighbors
- Gulf of Mexico
- Territory of Ancora
- Bermuda Triangle
Gulf of Mexico
Let’s begin with the Gulf of Mexico. It’s located west of the Caribbean Sea, where Antemidia is, and its ruler is Mermaid Leader Leticia Alvarez, with whom Amelia Quintana has a personal union. It wasn’t clarified in “…The Lost Symphony” to which extent the union goes, but from the definition of a personal union, it would look like Leticia and Amelia both have a say in the politics of each other’s countries. This is an interesting subplot, and we hope to see it developed further in the next books of the Mermaid Princess Amelia series.
Territory of Ancora
The second neighbor that Antemidia has is the Territory of Ancora. Because of its eccentric nature, and the never-ending problems inside their country, no one wanted to ally with them and it was only Antemidia that they had as an ally. Although they are nothing but trouble and chaos, they are considered the most loyal ally Antemidia has ever had (funny, isn’t it?). Regardless of whatever internal issues Antemidia is facing, Ancorans always stood by them.
Bermuda Triangle
Moving on, there’s the Bermuda Triangle – a neighboring country of Honey Earth, which is one of the many mermaid countries, and the place where Jet Mir went after his exile. Regardless of how scary the state’s name may sound, it’s one of the best places one could be when wanting to start afresh with a clean slate. In Fort Bermuda, your past doesn’t matter, and no one will cause you problems unless you yourself seek trouble. Everyone living there has an adventurous spirit and easily welcomes visitors (hence, the city’s areas are all overcrowded!).
Intriguingly, in the Bermuda Triangle, everyone is rich. Even a beggar on the road has enough money to buy luxurious land in the North Atlantic, and mermaids tend to need a whole lot of money to do that. Since this mermaid country is so affluent, there are several amazing sights, among them: colorful expedition shops, pawn shops, and taverns…
However, even though it’s one of the best places one can be, it has its cons. For example, it’s extremely hard for local merpeople to achieve a high status there because while everyone has a lot, the society is divided into classes: aristocracy, pirates, merchants, slaves, etc. This led to very paradoxical situations. Even though a slave or servant has enough money to become free, they can’t change their social class, so they’ll have to remain a slave. It’s insane, but in the Bermuda Triangle, money has nothing to do with social status; and social status depends on one’s roots. For example, Lara Lanorth is a mermaid princess.
Final thoughts on Antemidia’s neighbors
After reading this article, you will always remember that the mermaid kingdom of Antemidia is surrounded by three distinct neighbors: the Gulf of Mexico, the Territory of Ancora, and the Bermuda Triangle. Each of these neighbors has its own unique characteristics and culture that make them stand out from one another. Which one do you wish to see Mermaid Princess Amelia travel to?
