Bermuda Triangle as a Mermaid Kingdom in “Mermaid Princess Amelia and the Lost Symphony” by Maxine Foti
Bermuda Triangle is a region located in the northern part of the Atlantic Ocean, off of Florida. In fact, it is marked by Florida, Bermuda and Greater Antilles. It is an infamous area - people, ships and planes vanish when travelling through this region.
In “Mermaid Princess Amelia” series, there’s a very rich mermaid kingdom located in the triangle, ruled by the Lanorth Dynasty. The current monarch is Queen Larimara Lanorth, who has two daughters, Lana and Lara Lanorth. Lara was called by Jet Mir the “Dearest Crystal of the Bermuda Triangle” which is probably how she’s referred to.
Judging by Lara’s looks, mermaids and mermen from Bermuda Triangle are tall, pale, and with grayish-sky blue hair, eyes, and tails.
The country’s known neighbors are the Gulf of Mexico (south) and the Caribbean Sea (also south). Not much is known about international politics of the Bermuda Triangle. Nerland’s late queen, Marzia Mond, put citizens of the Bermuda Triangle on the list of persona non gratae, which means that the two countries have some sort of strife. Bermuda Triangle has a good relationship with Hailand, though. Queen Larimara Lanorth needed to collect some important documents from it, so she sent there her daughter Lara.
Amelia comments on the Bermuda Triangle being the “smallest and richest country in the Atlantic.” She claims that the citizens live in tall tenements made of quartz. Renting a room cost sixteen thousand halite cubes a month, which, according to Amelia, was an astronomical amount, only showing, how affluent the society was. Lara commented that there was a lot of hypocrisy and envy and that she didn’t enjoy living there. Her hobbies – playing checkers, reading romances and eating desserts – seem solitary.
Not much is known about the culture of the kingdom. For sure, there’s a famous university named Lambert Academy of Liberal Awareness. It’s not known, however, what it teaches, or why it’s called the way it’s called.
One thing that Amelia had, which was from Bermuda Triangle, was a crystal stool for the caudal fin. She liked it very much.

Bermuda Triangle was extensively described in Lara’s story “Princesses, Pirates, Traitors” in “Stories of the Undersea World of Mermaid Princess Amelia, Vol. 2” by Maxine Foti. It is the overarching setting of the story. It is a mysterious and dangerous region, but also home to a hidden underwater civilization of merpeople. It is a place where advanced cloaking technology hides the underwater cities from human detection. The area is known for its pirate culture, social hierarchies, and political intrigue.
The Capital of the Bermuda Triangle: Fort Bermuda
The main underwater city and the capital of the Bermuda Triangle. It is a hub of activity where royal and political affairs are conducted. It is where Lara’s birthday party is held and where the TRIAD headquarters is located. It is a place of high society, with courtiers, officials, and elaborate social functions.
The Royal Wooden Mansion/Palace
An awe-inspiring and grand structure located on the uncharted island. It is the primary residence of the Lanorth family. The interior is opulent, with plush armchairs, delicate crystal chandeliers, and a general air of upper-class luxury. It contains numerous rooms, including a library, the queen’s bedroom, a conference room, and various living areas.
The Royal Library
A location within the palace where Lara discovers a wealth of romance novels. It is a place of quiet study, but Lara uses it to secretly read forbidden books. The librarian is known for being strict and would not lend the adult books to a child.
The Pirate Market
A vibrant, bustling underwater marketplace where pirates sell their wares. It is a place of questionable repute, filled with “wannabe pirates” and shady characters. It is where Lara meets Paco and begins her exploration of pirate culture. It represents the seedy underbelly of Fort Bermuda.
The Hidden Fish Burger Shack
A rustic, hidden establishment where Paco takes Lara for a forbidden fish burger. It is described as having a rustic charm, serving freshly caught, expertly seasoned fish on soft, golden buns imported from the land. It is a secret spot for pirates and those looking to escape the strictures of royal life.
The Kraken’s Well
A haunting and dangerous place once used for executing pirates by casting them into a well inhabited by a legendary Kraken. It is a location of dark history and peril, visited by Paco and Lara. Paco brings treats to appease the creature.
The TRIAD Headquarters
The base of operations for the Triangle Research and Intelligence Agency for Defense. It is a place of high technology and espionage. It is responsible for the advanced cloaking technology that hides the underwater cities from humans. Lana attends meetings here to supervise the agency’s ethical practices.
The Palace Conference Room
A newly renovated room used for lavish celebrations and important meetings. It exudes unparalleled luxury with gilded chandeliers, ornate tapestries, and frescoes. It is the setting for Lara’s grand birthday party, which features extravagant decorations and a cake that is a towering spectacle.
Sherron’s Sunken Boat Office
Sherron’s place of business, located on the corner of Pirate’s Haven Avenue and Reef Road. The interior is a world of adventure and intrigue, decorated with pirate flags, grappling hooks, spyglasses, and a sturdy desk. It is a functional yet nostalgic space for Lana, who spent much time there in the past. It serves as a privateer’s base of operations.
Patty’s Underwater Home
A meticulously crafted residence made from sturdy, weathered wood. It is a place filled with nautical artifacts and secrets. Inside, Lana discovers a treasure hunter’s map, a seafarer’s compass, a buccaneer’s cutlass, and a bandana. The office is particularly rugged, adorned with tattered sails, worn ship wheels, and a Caribbean rum barrel.
The Clandestine Gathering Cellar
A dimly lit, secret location where the pirate gang meets to plan their schemes. The water is thick with tension, and the atmosphere is one of conspiracy and danger. Lara and Shellian hide in the shadows here to eavesdrop on the pirates.

The Uncharted Island
An island nestled in the heart of the Bermuda Triangle, untouched by human vessels. It is a picturesque landscape dotted with swaying palm trees, and it is the location of the royal family’s magnificent wooden mansion.
The Shipwreck
A relic of a bygone era of maritime adventure, located underwater. It is a site used by Shellian for his pirate-themed tours. The ship’s remnants are adorned with delicate corals and vibrant sea plants, transforming the once-imposing vessel into an enchanting underwater oasis. It is a peaceful and beautiful spot where Shellian and Lara have a private conversation.

The Bermuda Triangle stands as one of the most powerful and complex kingdoms in the Atlantic Ocean, its territory encompassing a rapidly growing megacity centered on Fort Bermuda, with additional major settlements at Fort Miami and Fort San Juan. The kingdom faces severe overcrowding, with consumption of all land inside the triangle expected within a few years, driving expansionist ambitions that threaten neighboring territories. The mysterious disappearances of planes in the region remain a mystery even to merpeople, who have scientists trying to understand the phenomenon while insisting they do not engage in sky piracy, preferring “good old vessels” for their maritime activities.
Queen Larimara Lanorth rules this powerful kingdom, described as a “great friend” of Amelia. The royal family includes Princess Lana, the older daughter favored by the queen, and Princess Lara, the younger daughter who represents a progressive faction seeking to change the kingdom’s direction. Lara’s theft of the constitution, which stipulates that when the youngest prince or princess turns sixteen, the rule should be given to them, represents a direct challenge to her mother and sister’s authority. The constitution was hidden somewhere in Fort Bermuda, and Lara enlisted her cousin Finn to help steal it, hoping to prevent her mother from expanding northeast beyond the Sargasso Sea into the KAVEM District.
The kingdom’s political ambitions extend to potentially expanding northeast into the KAVEM District, a move that would trigger war with Lumina’s kingdom. Queen Larimara wants Lara to marry a wealthy prince, mirroring Lana’s advantageous marriage, but Lara’s resistance to this plan and her desire to prevent war demonstrate the growing tensions within the royal family. The Bermuda Triangle’s strategic importance in the Atlantic Ocean cannot be overstated, as it represents a key spot where Antemidian troops could station in case of war against Atlantis, making its political alignment crucial for regional stability.
