The KAVEM District is a fictional place described in the fantasy series about Mermaid Princess Amelia. Amelia mentions that it was located in the Sargasso Sea.
The Sargasso Sea has calm, warm waters with little or no wind. It’s located in a norther region of the North Atlantic Ocean, one that’s bounded by four currents: the Gulf Stream, the North Atlantic Current, the Canary Current, and the North Equatorial Current. The name is derived from the Sargassum seaweed, which is a type of brown macroalgae. The algae tends to stay afloat thanks to its air bladders.
In the novel about Amelia, Sargasso Sea used to be an empty territory that was purchased by the rulers of five powerful undersea nations. Those rulers were:
- Kamon Thani of the Thai Pearl Empire
- Ailish Giomach of Balearic Sea and Lyon Bay
- Vera Fehér of Moonstone Queendom
- Estella Santoro of Atlantis
- Marzia Mond from Nerland
The territory purchased was called the KAVEM District, from the initials of their first names. The goal of the five rulers, was to solidify their friendship, and strengthen positive relations between their five countries.
However, it’s important to mention that the KAVEM District soon became much more: a trade union. The area served principally commercial purposes, letting the five countries sell their goods without facing any tax problems.
After the death of four of the five queens, the destiny of the KAVEM District remains unknown. The only one of the old generation left, is Vera Fehér, who managed to escape Rathana’s wrath and the terrible labyrinth of the Mausoleum of Lost Symphonies.
The future of the KAVEM District will be further explored in the second part of the “Mermaid Princess Amelia” fantasy series, “Mermaid Princess Amelia and the Destiny’s Theater.”
