Marine decoration ideas for a mermaid restaurant on land
Written by Merman Moises and Mermaid Wioletta
Did you know, “Mermaid Princess Amelia and the Lost Symphony” is a novel full of inspiration for marine décor? If you are looking for original ideas to furnish and decorate your new marine restaurant, and are tired of the traditional “driftwood & ropes” look, then you are in the right place! With this article, you’ll get plenty of ideas how to make your restaurant look like one from an undersea kingdom!
Let’s start with the basics:
WALLS
Idea #1 – A colorful mural
This first – and brave! – idea is inspired both by the folk mythological mural in Edith’s apartment, and the mural decorating the Jade Dragon Restaurant, to which Amelia and Taisuke went when looking for Amelia’s elusive sister, Lumina.
Why is a mural a good idea? Because it immediately draws the visitor’s eye, turning them into potential guests. It makes your restaurant truly unique!
Furthermore, it’s important to remember that the ocean’s variety of landscapes, and sea life creates potential for infinite scenes, meaning, if someone you know already has a mural, you don’t need to worry about copying them – you can make your own one. It’s very easy to think of scenes worthy of being captured via painting. Here are some inspirations to get you started: seaweed fields with sunken ships or mermaid palaces in the distance; coral reef meadows brimming with life. Remember to add some sea animals, such as prawns, anemones or fish. They will create an image filled with different colors, resembling a beautiful garden filled with butterflies. And don’t forget about mermaids, if you’ve got a gift for character art!
Idea #2 – An archipelago of photographs (or maps)
Such a wall decoration is very simple to do. All you need, is basically a clean wall to hang or display photos which will add ambiance to the place. Extra points for you, if the photo frames are decorated with coral or other underwater materials. If you’re hoping for a mora “pirate” look, you can add maps of undersea cities such as Antemidia, or even the plans of Jet Mir’s submarine!
Idea #3 – An ethnic carpet… on the wall
Amelia has a weakness for fluffy rugs… and who doesn’t?! We all love to put our feet on a soft, pleasant carpet – especially after a long walk!
However, restaurants brim with clients, and that makes floor rugs quite unpractical as décor.
But did you know that you can also hang a beautiful rug on the wall? You can use this solution to give your restaurant a more eastern look.
Now, let’s move on to floors:
FLOORS
Idea #1 – A variegated mosaic
One of the places that Mermaid Princess Amelia and Captain Jet Mir visited during their trip to the Land of Barite Roses, was the Thousand Mosaics’ Square. Mosaics can add an oriental look to your restaurant, or be used as a variant of a mural – it’s up to you if you create them on the floor, or on the walls!
To make a mosaic, combine either glass pieces or pebbles together, to form a unique sea landscape picture. The effects of one color blurring and melting into the other can give your restaurant the look of a tropical sunset or a magical night. If you have more artistic experience, you can try to create the whole scene, with beautiful mermaids dancing in the waters. Such mosaics will surely have a magical effect on every visitor with kids that’ll convince their parents to stay and order!
LIGHTNING
Idea #1 – Lamps resembling animals.
If you’re hoping to make your restaurant look like an aquarium, try to pick hanging lamps in the shape of tunicates, fish, or eels. They’ll add greatly to the effect!
Idea #2 – String lights + sea nets
Weave string lights into a sea net and attach it to the ceiling. If it sounds too complicated, look for ready ones. They’ll give your restaurant the look of a sea tavern, no matter where it’s located!
Idea #3 – Antemidian crystal chandelier
If you’re looking for something very elegant, a haughty and ambitious decoration option would be a large translucent chandelier, inspired by those that Amelia had in her crystal palace in Atanga, the capital of Antemidia. Such a chandelier will illuminate your interiors with several soft turquoise lights, having both a chic and mermaid look!
Idea #4 – Uxmal Manor’s glass disks
Don’t forget the disk lamps lightning the dark corridors of the Uxmal Pyramid! Those will be both inexpensive and stylish.
DECORATIONS
Idea #1 – Centerpieces
Centerpieces are displays one typically puts in the middle of a dining table. Those are amazing, because, they can have a thousand of different shapes and colors. You can pick candles adorned with seashells, crab-shaped tissue holders… The possibilities are endless!
Idea #2 – Aquarium
There’s no better place for an aquarium than a sea food restaurant! Imagine a moderately large fish tank, with walls separating its colorful inhabitants from guests. It would be ideal for creating the right atmosphere in your local! There’s nothing screaming “sea!” louder than colorful fish dancing among the waters, corals, algae, and other decorations, which could be e.g. miniatures of ships or sunken boats, acrylic models in the shape of step pyramids… You can also insert glass art, which will remind clients of the crystal palace in Atanga. And don’t forget about the figurines of mermaids and tritons!
Idea #3 – An interior pond
This might be a little more challenging, due to space requirements and complex installation. However, it’s definitely worth the hassle. Just think about it: peaceful fountain sounds creating a natural ambient for your restaurant; crystal clear water, and golden fish to feed… A pond will be perfect joy for kids, who’ll love to return to your restaurant and they’ll drag parents with them!
Did you like these ideas? We hope so! Also, don’t forget to keep a copy of “Mermaid Princess Amelia and the Lost Symphony” somewhere in your local, so that fellow mermaids know that you’re from the team!
