Wiktor Kruk is a character from Mermaid Princess Amelia fantasy series by Maxine Foti. He made his first appearance in the “Stories from the Undersea World of Mermaid Princess Amelia.”
Wiktor Kruk is a young man from Lodz, Poland. He is Sawa Zielinska’s friend and former band mate.
Wiktor was described as a tall man with wispy blond hair and characteristical, light blue eyes. He typically wore black clothes, and heavy army boots. He also smoke cigarettes.
Wiktor grew up in a poor household, but didn’t let it define him. Since teenage years he kept trying different jobs to earn money and dedicate himself to his greatest passion – composing and singing music.
At one point of his life, Wiktor moved to Gdynia (probably for college, or to look for opportunities). There, he sang in a punk rock band named Baltic Ghost, together with Oskar ??? and Sawa Zielinska. The band became very successful because of Sawa’s alluring voice, and it went from performing in nightclubs to performing on festivals.
After a successful performance, Wiktor invited Sawa to his hometown, Lodz, so she could meet his parents. Since it rained, he gave her one of his spare t-shirts and offered her tea (according to the Polish custom). That afternoon, Sawa realized that Wiktor had feelings for her and that she had feelings for him, too.
She wanted to pursue a relationship with him but was scared of settling fast. To that, she still had to complete tasks that she got from her aunt. And last but not least, she was afraid that Wiktor would figure out the truth about her being a mermaid. He realized that the village she said she was from, didn’t exist, and was curious about her family.
When she told him (jokingly) that she was a mermaid, like mermaid Sawa from the old Polish legend, Wiktor told her he should call himself Wars (like Sawa’s husband from the same legend).
After that, Sawa decided to leave. Still, she never stopped thinking about Wiktor; and Wiktor never stopped thinking about her.
After some time, he sent her a monochrome postcard. He wrote on it that he was giving a concert in Warsaw, and that everyone important was present, except Sawa. It’s not clear if Sawa received that postcard already in Portugal, or if she got it earlier.
But as Wiktor showed up at her doorstep, it became clear that he had known her address – probably from Mewa, who wanted them to reconcile.
In the end, it’s not clear what happened between Sawa and Wiktor, if it was a happy or sad reunion, and if they got together. But because Sawa has already learned the lesson “who leaves first, shall regret it one day,” it’s highly likely that she told him how she felt.
Wiktor’s surname, Kruk, means “raven” in Polish. Maxine Foti chose this surname for a reason. In Polish culture, ravens are considered dark and ominous birds that herald scary change, and symbolize fear. Sawa loved Wiktor, but she was also scared of pursuing these feelings; and Wiktor suffered a lot because of her leaving.
