Many fans of “Mermaid Princess Amelia and the Lost Symphony” often wonder where they can find equally entertaining stories about mermaids. Even though there’s of great sea-themed fiction out there, let’s be honest: it’s hard to find something that would be as rich, colorful, and diverse, as the famous series written by Maxine Foti.
Having said this, I won’t lie that the thing which drew me to “Mermaid High” in the first place, were the looks of the main characters. Yes, you guessed right – their colorful hair, vibrant attires and quirky personalities reminded me almost instantly of several favorite characters from “Mermaid Princess Amelia…” such as Lara, Poseyda, Edith, or Leticia. And the small coastal town where action of the cartoon takes place, has a fantastic summer vibe – a lot like the town of Santa Ana.
However, it’s important to point out that the adventures of Mermaid High girls – Searra, Oceanna, Finly and Mari – are quite different from the adventures of Amelia and her friends. Amelia’s story has a very complex plot, with countless characters and multiple mermaid kingdoms; Mermaid High has just nine episodes, most of which have 2-3 minutes. Because the cartoon is supposed to market dolls (which look super cool, by the way!), adventures are directed mostly at young girls, and center around themes such as school, friendship, popularity, gossip, etc. Even though you will find those themes in “Mermaid Princess Amelia…” as well, they aren’t central to the plot.
Still, you will definitely like the cartoon, if you enjoyed Amelia’s story; it’s funny, entertaining, and a real gold mine of fantastic mermaid quotes. You can watch the episodes for free on Mermaid High’s official YouTube Channel. They’re definitely worth a try!
