In the last two articles about “Mermaid Princess Amelia and the Lost Symphony,” we have spoken about the famous military prodigies, national heroes and gods appearing in the novel. This article also discusses outstanding people – but those, who are marked by a good heart.
Let’s begin with an example that often goes forgotten: Alisha Quintana.
Alisha Quintana is the adoptive aunt of the titular protagonist of the “Mermaid Princess Amelia…” fantasy series. Even though she doesn’t appear in person in the novel, she played an important role in Amelia’s life. She was her primary caregiver, and she took care of her, making sure, she’d go to school and have good grades. She helped search for her true parents, and later accompanied her to the election. After Amelia was chosen, Alisha’s mission was complete, and she left. What makes her an everyday hero, is that she took an orphan in. How many people would do it? Not many.
Another everyday hero would be Amelia Quintana herself. Even though she has flaws and she didn’t always take the right decisions, in total, she saved the lives of countless people. She signed the contract with Jet Mir, to get him to help Araminta, and rescued Taisuke’s twin from drowning.
When she arrived at the Mausoleum of the Lost Symphonies, and met Kamadia De Lisle, who was suffering from depression, she helped her regained hope. Kamadia reawakened her spiritual powers, and freed her soul sisters Leticia, Saliffa and Raisa from the ties of the terrible curse which was binding them.
One more everyday hero worth mentioning, is Amelia’s step-sister, Lumina Mond. Even though we meet her as an antagonist, it turned out that she put on the mask of an evil person on purpose. In the letter that she sent to Tikalie Uxmal, she wrote that the job of avenging her mother, was a task for “sea wolves that have nothing to lose,” and added that she considered herself to be such.
And once we spoke of Lumina Mond, we can’t ignore Jet Mir Thakur. Even though Amelia hates Jet Mir at first, and considers him a scoundrel, in reality, he’s some sort of guardian angel for her. If this sounds crazily odd to you, just pay attention to how and when he appears in the novel. He first shows up after the earthquake. Thanks to him, Amelia quickly forgets about grief, and as her best friend’s rescued, she continues on his mission, willingly choosing to pay off the debt.
Later, as she feels confused about her sister, Jet Mir shows up again, and gifts her the pendant. As she leaves Nerland, dealing with everything that she’d seen, she can relax only after seeing Jet Mir’s submarine. He’s the one to try to comfort her, once she learns the truth about Samantha. Last but not least, he also shows up at the Mausoleum of Lost Symphonies, bringing with himself a squad of the Global Ocean’s Army. Even though she and him fight like cat and dog sometimes, he’s always somewhere out there, watching over her.
And last but not least, Edith Dvali. Kind soul that she is, she brightens up people’s days with her smile. She’s forgiving, understanding, and always offers a listening ear. Nowadays, it’s really rare to find people like that, and they need to be treasured. Hence, we decided to put her on this list, even though, she didn’t really rescue anyone. But if you think about it, kind people rescue us from losing faith in the world.
