The message conveyed by “Mermaid Princess Amelia and the Lost Symphony,” fantasy novel by Maxine Foti
Written by Mermaid Gwen
The first book in the “Mermaid Princess Amelia” series, “Mermaid Princess Amelia and the Lost Symphony,” carries a powerful and complex message, one which stays with readers long after they had completed the book. Let’s dive deeper into its components:
The temporary nature of loss
We have all lost something valuable to us; it’s part of human experience. It may seem upsetting or negative, most of the time, but in reality, these situations allows us to grow and find better opportunities. Amelia’s story teaches us that when we lose something, it should not be thought of as a curse, but rather, accepted as the gift getting us on the path which we were really meant to travel. When we lose something, we often feel like it’s the end of the world, but life is fair and will return to us what we’ve lost and give us more: Amelia believed she had lost her kingdom, but she got it back and also learned, that she was a heir of her sister’s kingdom, too. Not only that – she also travelled, made countless friends, and grew as a person.
Friendships don’t need to be perfect, to be beautiful
Friendship plays an important role in healthy human life. In all cultures, friendships are highly revered. We all know that a real friend is the one who walks in when the rest of the world walks out. “Mermaid Princess Amelia and the Lost Symphony” shows us that although all friendships go through tough times, in the end, true friendship always wins. We can see it in the case of Amelia and Edith. Edith is actually an embodiment of an ideal friend, who doesn’t demand perfection and can love even without it. When Amelia believed that their friendship was over, Edith empathized with her difficult situation and their bond was saved. But that wouldn’t be possible without Amelia’s honesty, and Edith’s forgiveness, and loyalty of them both.
When we see beyond pain and find ourselves in others, we learn to love at the deepest level, and that’s a beautiful lesson from “Mermaid Princess Amelia and the Lost Symphony.”
Fighting until the end is a sign of fierce character
Never give up – this means believing in yourself, and willingness to accept failure so that the critical skill of adaptation can be learnt. It also means not compromising on our most important values, and walking the walk rather than just talking the talk. Amelia showed that there is only one difference between a successful person and a loser: never giving up, moving on from painful memories, and following through even when it feels like the whole world is against us. She fought till the end to save her friend, in karate class, and at the Mausoleum of Lost Symphonies.
When all hope’s lost, you’ve got to be the one to decide, something better is in store
Optimistic determination is a belief that our goals and dreams will turn out successful. The book clearly emphasizes that there is power in being positive and determined. Many characters had showed determination which made them successful at the end. Tikalie was a very determined and ambitious ruler who had the big dream of turning her country into the most important power in the Atlantic Ocean. Jet Mir never stopped searching for a way to go back home, despite being broken by unjust exile. Lumina never gave up on the hope of meeting her sister, and later, she went great lengths, to avenge her mother, travelling around multiple countries to find her grave.
And last, but not least, Amelia. She stayed motivated even in the Mausoleum of Lost Symphony, when the main hero, Princess Kamadia from the Kingdom of One Thousand Jewels, gave up. When Kamadia got depressed, and said, she felt hopeless, Amelia reminded her of everything that was at stake, and spoke to her, until Kamadia’s courage and hope returned.
Having personal integrity is crucial to a person’s well-being
Tikalie used to say that, “A princess always wears her crown, even when she has a hat on her head,” and Amelia strongly believed in it. Integrity, morality, and honesty, are all crucial for Amelia, and the book clearly captured that when she struck a deal with Jet Mir.
She didn’t want to lie and steal, but because her friend’s life was at stake, she had no other choice, but to agree to resort to these methods to collect artifacts.
She was plagued by remorse, though, and in the end, she said the truth, acknowledging her bad acts, and apologizing for the damage done. After Edith and Jet Mir reached some sort of agreement, she felt much better, as it meant, she could continue to live according to her morals. From that scene on, she showed a consistent and uncompromising adherence to her ethical principles.
