5 Greatest Plot Twists in “Mermaid Princess Amelia and the Lost Symphony” by Maxine Foti

“Mermaid Princess Amelia and the Lost Symphony” is a novel with many unexpected turns that genuinely surprise the audience and subvert their expectations. The radical changes in the plot in this work of fiction will ensure an incredible roller-coaster ride for anyone who picks it. In this article, we will discuss the best twists – watch out, though, as there are going to be spoilers!

#1 – Lumina Mond – the missing girl, the enemy, the loving sister

One of the greatest, and probably most surprising plot twists in the novel, is related to Amelia’s mysterious sister, Lumina Mond. We first learn that she’s missing, then that she’s an enemy, and at last – that the cold facade she always wore was only a ploy to protect Amelia from real danger.

Interestingly, Jet Mir is a character very similar to Lumina. We first meet him as a helper and wannabe hero, then learn he’s a swindler, to take his side again in the end of the book. And all roles that he has – submarine captain, artifact seeker, exiled prince, esteemed lecturer, and more – definitely don’t let the reader feel bored, whenever he shows up in the plot picture.

#2 – Samantha Santoro – Amelia Quintana’s foil.

Princess Samantha Santoro was said to have disappeared 5 years before the start of the saga. But in reality, She was a pure royal blood whose family has control over the largest state of the Atlantic ocean, yet she pretended to be Araminta, a court servant in Antemidia. As a character who went willingly from riches to rags, she’s a foil for Amelia, who went an opposite route: from rags to riches.

It’s a shock to both Amelia and the reader, to learn, Araminta is in reality the lost princess of Atlantis, especially taking into consideration the fact, that Antemidia and Atlantis are natural enemies.

#3 – Edith Dvali and Jet Mir Thakur were in love all along

Many fans admitted to have fallen of their chairs, when they read about these two sworn enemies, being best friends earlier, and having romantic feelings for each other.

What shocked them most, was that although Jet Mir was Edith’s ex, he was still very much in love with her, which was evident as they met in Nerland. His eyes simply shone with and adoration for Edith, when he met her for the first time after years.

What’s probably most surprising about this, is that Jet Mir is constantly balancing between the good and evil, while Edith, is likely the most emotionally pure character of the whole series. Jet Mir’s crush on her, showed us all instantly, despite all of his shenanigans, he’s an idealist, seeking truth, beauty and love.

#4 – Davika Thani knew everything from the start, and was actually right

Davika is one of the most irritating characters in the book, one of the few ones, Amelia genuinely dislikes. Amelia finds Davika immature, shallow and annoying, and it takes her much patience, not to snap when in her presence. Because of it, readers may look down at Davika. But in reality, she’s a very smart character, who has a lot of knowledge. Had Amelia made friends with her, a lot of her troubles would be spared.

By the end of the novel, it turns out, Davika had known all along the coordinates of the Mausoleum of Lost Symphonies all along, just kept it a secret to prevent history from repeating itself. Davika knew everything from her mother, who was the sister of the current ruler of the Thai Pearl Empire: Kamon Thani. She kept quiet about it to protect her friends, and also because it would have cast a shadow on her aunt’s powerful personality.

Moreover, Davika knew well about Amelia and Lumina being sisters, as her aunt Kamon was a close friend of Marzia, the sister’s mother. She had a good hunch about Lumina being a troublemaker. Besides, she never really trusted Jet Mir. If you thought that Davika lacks brains, think again! She’s one of the smartest, and most intuitive characters in the book.

#5 – A new letter to Tikalie Uxmal, who died years ago.

When Amelia found the letter Lumina sent to the presumably late Princess Tikalie of Antemidia, it was a complete shock! Not just for her, and her best friend Tony, but also, for most readers. The letter raised series of questions which led Amelia to question everything she had believed about the former princess…

There are many more plot twists in the book – which ones were your favorites? Drop your suggestions in the comments and we’ll write another article to live through them together.
