Augustus is Samantha’s adopted brother, a young Atlantean who has been thrown into the pit alongside his brother Silas for treason—specifically, for opposing the war against Icosahedron. He is not the king’s biological son; he was adopted from the king’s friends, which explains why Samantha never considered him a “real” brother. Despite his ostracism, Augustus is fiercely principled: he opposes the war and wants Atlantis to prosper peacefully, believing that conflict will only bring ruin. He suspects that Samantha’s “master plan” might be to make Atlantis the host city for the Atlantic Ocean Olympics, which would prevent attacks for fifty years, but he cannot understand why Samantha would oppose him and Silas, who share her anti‑war stance.

Amelia rescues Augustus from the pit, hiding him in a ceiling space before smuggling him and Silas out of Atlantis. After his escape, Augustus reveals his adoptive status and his determination to investigate Samantha’s plan through spies. He refuses Justus’s offer of sanctuary in Icosahedron, fearing revenge attacks, and instead considers fleeing to the Azores. He also admits that he had no idea Samantha had lived in Antemidia for years, showing how much his sister has kept from her own family. Augustus stands for the possibility of redemption within even the most corrupt regime—a brother who chooses conscience over kin.
