However, this delightful short story collection opens readers’ eyes to more details about these objects that they didn’t read about in the first book in the Mermaid Princess Amelia series. Take a look at these 5 interesting objects in no particular order:
5 Objects From ‘Mermaid Princess Amelia And The Lost Symphony’ That Gain A New Meaning
- Sawa’s Amber Ring
- Nubia’s Turquoise Bracelet
- Jet Mir’s Belongings
- Amelia’s Crown
- Edith’s Art Supplies
Sawa’s Amber Ring
Amelia first noticed the silver ring with an amber eye that Sawa was playing with, in the first book of the Mermaid Princess Amelia series. In the ‘Stories from the Undersea World of Mermaid Princess Amelia, Vol. 1,” we learn that the ring was given to Sawa by her mother, on the young mermaid’s sixteenth birthday. The amber ring reminds Sawa of the Amber Chamber, and also, how she didn’t agree with many of her mother’s views on life. It also reminds her relationship with her mother worsened when Sawa started living like her mother’s sister, Anastazja.
Nubia’s Turquoise Bracelet
When Amelia first saw the bracelet on Nubia’s wrist in ‘Mermaid Princess Amelia and the Lost Symphony,’ she assumed the bracelet was given to Nubia by Neylan, the Princess of the Turquoise Ravines. In the short story collection, on the other hand, we find out that Nubia ruthlessly destroyed the bracelet Neylan had given her, in a fit of anger triggered by an argument with Setenet. Afterward, Setenet had given her his turquoise bracelet, which he got from Neylan, as well. He did so, so that she could have something to remember him by when she left, and the fact that Nubia accepted the bracelet from Setenet showed she still had friendly feelings for him.
Jet Mir’s Belongings
Jet Mir has been in exile since the massacre of Mrigatrishna City. His mother helped him escape from the dungeons and took him to his grandfather’s submarine with nothing but a letter and a submarine manual. After spending days in the submarine, Jet Mir began to explore the place, and ultimately stumbled upon his grandfather’s diary, which revealed his quest for the guardian plates. The submarine and everything in the submarine reminded him that even though he was no longer a prince, he was still part of his family. Carrying on his grandfather’s legacy made him realize that he was still on the right path.
Amelia’s Crown
The moment she became the elective princess, Amelia could perceive that many merpeople weren’t happy with her victory. For this reason, she channelled her energy into making new friends and being the best elective princess Antemidia has ever had. She knew that being elected was not a lifetime win but a trial period, and she was determined to come out of it victoriously. The crown she loses in the earthquake, and later regains, is a symbol of her duty, and mission: making Antemidia a powerful kingdom in the Atlantic.
Edith’s Art Supplies
We all know that Edit was interested in painting; it was underlined multiple times in the first book of the Mermaid Princess Amelia’s series, “…The Lost Symphony.” However, this story collection reveals that Edith’s creative nature is more than a hobby; it is a means for her to shield herself from pain. When you realize this, you start looking at her art supplies in a very different way, a little like they were anti-depressants.
