The Art of Letter Writing in “Mermaid Princess Amelia And The Lost Symphony” and the “Stories From The Undersea World Of Mermaid Princess Amelia, Vol. 1” by Maxine Foti

An Introduction to the Art of Letter Writing

Letter writing is a timeless art that has been around for centuries. It is a form of communication that allows us to express our thoughts and feelings intimately and personally. It allows us to connect with people, build relationships, and even create lasting memories. The ability to write letters can be used in many different ways, from expressing sympathy, sending congratulations, or expressing love. It can also be used as a form of self-expression or simply to keep in touch with friends and family.

Intriguingly, in “Mermaid Princess Amelia and the Lost Symphony,” as well as “Stories from the Undersea World of Mermaid Princess Amelia, Vol. 1,” letter writing remains an essential mode of communication in the underwater world – even amongst the plethora of other ways that mermaids have to get in touch with one another (such as, e.g., using the fax!). Merpeople are all well-versed in letter writing and use it regularly to stay connected with whoever is close to their heart. This article explores the letter writing in the first two installments of the series about Mermaid Princess Amelia by Maxine Foti.

The Art of Letter Writing in Tikalie Uxmal’s Story

This time, let’s start from the first story collection and the first story, the one of Tikalie Uxmal. Tikalie was sadly alone due to her position as an elective princess. She felt isolated and forlorn in her royal court, where she had no real connection with anyone. When she could no longer bear the loneliness, she asked the Council of Generals for permission to exchange letters with other rulers abroad. That was how Tikalie gained two new penpals in Samantha and Lumina, even though they were five years younger than her. Surprisingly, their correspondence was well-developed and mutually enjoyable for all involved. Samantha was known for writing incredibly engaging, lengthy letters about her day-to-day life as a royal princess of Atlantis. And Lumina – for writing precisely and addressing every paragraph written by her friend Tikalie.

What’s interesting in “…The Lost Symphony” is that Amelia Quintana and Tony Alcantara accidentally intercepted a letter written by Lumina Mond to Tikalie Uxmal. It was hidden behind the ceiling lamp in one of the dark corridors of the Uxmal Manor. This is the only instance where Amelia reads someone’s letter, but it is mentioned that she did receive letters from Antemidia after getting back in touch with the Council of Generals.

The Art of Letter Writing in Edith Dvali’s Story

Let’s return to the first collection. The third story brought the readers to the Black Sea, where they met Edith Dvali and her best friend, Mariam Marzani. The two young girls were forced to spend the majority of their lives apart from each other due to Mariam’s decision to pursue her studies on dry land since elementary school (while Edith continued dwelling deep in the depths of the ocean). Despite this distance, they remained in contact with one another via letter writing, although neither of them was accustomed to expressing themselves through this medium. Edith sent mostly her drawings, while Mariam wrote short, hilarious notes insulting people they knew.

The Art of Letter Writing in Jet Mir Thakur’s Story

Now, let’s move on to the fourth story from the collection, the one of brave Captain Jet Mir Thakur. After experiencing the horror of the devastating Massacre of Mrigatrishna City, Jet Mir had no other choice than to flee from his beloved kingdom and seek refuge elsewhere. Before he did, though, his mother, Jaya Mia Thakur, gave him a letter for her friend, Queen Larimara, from the Bermuda Triangle. It is not clear if she and Queen Larimara had been communicating before the massacre, but the way Jaya Mia spoke of her friend makes it seem that the two had a very close bond. When Jet Mir arrived in the bustling city of Fort Bermuda, he was welcomed with open arms and offered a position at the prestigious Lambert Academy of Liberated Consciousness.

The Art of Letter Writing in the next installments from Mermaid Princess Amelia Fantasy Series

Maxine Foti announced that the art of letter writing will be developed even further in the sequel of “…The Lost Symphony,” “Mermaid Princess Amelia and the Destiny’s Theater.” We are curious to see who will be writing letters this time and how!

Final Thoughts on the Art of Letter Writing

Writing letters is still a beautiful way to communicate with someone. The joy of receiving a letter, written by hand and filled with thoughts and emotions, is incomparable to any other form of communication. Despite the prevalence of instant messaging and video calling in our lives today, there is still something special about receiving a letter that resonates deeply with us.
