Shanaya Mia Khanda-Madhu is a character from Mermaid Princess Amelia fantasy series by Maxine Foti. She made her first appearance in “Stories from the Undersea World of Mermaid Princess Amelia.”
Shanaya Mia Khanda-Madhu, born Shanaya Khanda, is an adult mermaid from Honey Earth.
Shanaya lived in the slums, where she met her first love, Kiran Chari. The two had a baby, Kashvi Chari. For reasons that weren’t explained, Shanaya left Kiran and Kashvi, and signed up for the royal harem.
There, she became the mistress of the maharaja, Shri Mir Madhu. She bore him two children, Sha Mir Madhu and Shafia Mia Madhu, and consequently convinced him to divorce his wife, Lohita Mia Madhu, and marry her instead. She obtained the honorific “Mia” and became Shanaya Mia Khanda-Madhu. With this move, she enraged the maharaja’s sister, Jaya Mia Madhu-Thakur (Jet Mir Thakur’s mother) who became scared of the woman hurting their family.
Her worries weren’t ungrounded. Shanaya Mia successfully got rid of her husband’s ex-wife Lohita Mia, and their child, Lipika Mia. Solved problem number one, Shanaya Mia moved on to problem number two, and tried to persuade Jet Mir to move on land or at least to some other country. But Jet Mir couldn’t be persuaded.
During Diwali, Shanaya Mia and her husband, the maharaja, organized the massacre of Mrigatrishna City. As a consequence, Sha Mir was mistakenly stabbed, and Jet Mir was blamed for the whole happening and sentenced to death. Fortunately, his mother, Jaya Mia, managed to get him exiled instead.
After returning to health, Sha Mir refused to speak to his mother. His sister, Shafia Mia, did the same. She moved out to Firavaka, the capital of the Kingdom of One Thousand Jewels. Still, with Jet Mir being exiled and Lipika Mia fleeing with her mother Lohita Mia to Ninad Kingdom, Shanaya Mia momentarily got rid of all the opposition.
Somewhere after that time, Kiran Chari died of a tropical disease and his daughter, Kashvi Chari, sought her mother. Shanaya Mia pushed her away and pretended not to know her. Shanaya Mia was also unkind to Rasheeda Chandran, her servant, too, not knowing that she was her son’s love. This shows, she lacked empathy for others, even though, she could easily sympathize with them, having gone through similar experiences.
Despite her evil nature, Shanaya Mia was a beautiful brunette. Her tail resembled that of a queen angelfish, it was yellow with neon marks. Her children, Sha Mir and Shafia Mia, both inherited it from her.
