Elena Laskaris is a character from Mermaid Princess Amelia fantasy series by Maxine Foti. She made her first appearance in “Stories from the Undersea World of Mermaid Princess Amelia.”

Elena Laskaris is a young mermaid from Argolic Gulf. Despite being sixteen years old, Elena was often perceived as younger, due to her low height and weight. She has blond hair until chin, lime green eyes, and a lime green tail; short but with large side and caudal fins, one which makes her look like a sea fairy.

Elena is the younger sister of Lampros Laskaris, and the neighbor of Michalis Laskaris. She studied with them (and Mara Leventis) in technical school, but was also friends with Poseyda Eos and Thalassa Athanasiou from Children of Poseidon’s High School.

Despite her home, room, and life being well described, little is known about Elena’s personality. She seems, however, to be quite open. The first sign of it, is the fact that her room doesn’t have a door (but a portiere); unlike her brother’s room, that’s locked with a steampunk mechanism.

During the club meeting, Elena doesn’t hide anything from her friends, either. She talks freely about her volunteering experiences (she cleaned coastal areas) and family worries. During the conversation it turns out that Mara, knows Elena so well, she could easily guess her personality test result without the mermaid seeing even one question.

Elena seems to be happy, warm, and energetic. She also seems very attached to her older brother. However, she didn’t like the name that he had picked for his cuttlefish, Parmenides. She felt that it was depressing.

When Thalassa broke the news that Kostas would become her brother, soon, Elena was happy for her and she wanted to share her experiences, and give advice.

Everything changed, though, once Elena figured out that she was adopted. Rather than seek her friends for comfort and advice, she broke into the necromanteion with a group of punks, to steal from there. Mara told her it was wrong, but Elena told her to mind her own business. She was very angry and hurt by realizing that her family wasn’t her true family.

Elena’s likes aren’t centered around one big passion; rather, she seems to like a bit of everything. One thing that’s sure, is that she enjoyed reading fantasy stories. When Poseyda tells her how she escaped from the shark, it turns out that Elena is not only afraid of sharks but that she dislikes shark meat, as well.

Last but not least, Elena lived in a white house with a courtyard. The courtyard had a table where Lampros and Michalis used to work on their school project, and a lot of trash that Lampros brought from land, to work on his inventions. There was also the washing machine there, inhabited by Parmenides. The house had two floors, on the first floor was the kitchen with clay pots and striped rugs, and on the second floor, there were family rooms. Elena slept in a bed that looked like a turkey wing clam.

Elena Laskaris

Elena is the fourth member of their club. She is extremely short and skinny, looking younger than her age, with light skin and short lemon hair. She loves fantasy stories and is the dramatic, emotional one in the group. Poseyda struggles with whether to tell Elena a painful secret she has discovered, agonizing over the moral dilemma of honesty versus protecting her friend’s happiness.
