Soraya Shirazi-Mervarid is a character from Mermaid Princess Amelia fantasy series by Maxine Foti. She made her first appearance in “Stories from the Undersea World of Mermaid Princess Amelia.”
Soraya Shirazi-Mervarid is a young mermaid from Delshad. She is best friends with Saliffa Hatim, the seventh and youngest mermaid princess of Delshad. She is also the daughter of Elmira Shirazi, and the wife of Hassan Mervarid.
Soraya is an elegant, silent and mysterious mermaid. She is neither talkative nor sociable, and values her personal space and privacy very much. She speaks only when she has something important to say – or when she’s sure of something.
Soraya’s talent is painting with inks, her favorite ink shop being Starfish Inks. She offered to teach that skill to Saliffa, hoping, it would help her connect with her husband, Ehsan (who was an artist). However, Saliffa didn’t want to learn painting, saying, she wasn’t going to learn it well enough to impress him.
Soraya’s friendship with Saliffa, is an important bond for them both. Even though the two mermaids are different, they complement each other wonderfully. Soraya always listens to her cousin, and provides advice. She is both religious and pragmatic.
Soraya was described as a mermaid with She has dark red hair which she however covers with veil. Her eyes are dark, and her skin – light brown. She has a beautiful red tail with elegant long fins, and typically wears simple yet elegant tunics.
