Ulyssa Altamira is a character from Mermaid Princess Amelia fantasy series by Maxine Foti. She made her first appearance in “Stories from the Undersea World of Mermaid Princess Amelia.”
Ulyssa Altamira is an elderly Antemidian mermaid married to General Asvald Altamira. This makes her the first lady of Antemidia, even though the title is not mentioned anywhere.
In “Mermaid Princess Amelia and the Lost Symphony,” Ulyssa never appears by her husband’s side, neither in the royal palace of Atanga, nor in the Uxmal Manor, clearly preferring to stay in her and her husband’s family home (described in the “Stories from the Undersea World of Mermaid Princess Amelia.”)
Little is known about Ulyssa. She met her future husband Asvald on land, on one of the Caribbean islands. It was raining, and Ulyssa was carrying a suitcase and an umbrella. After spotting her, Asvald knew that she was special right away, and had to speak to her.
Their marriage was successful. Ulyssa bore two sons to her husband, who however weren’t interested in the politics of Antemidia. Because of this, General Asvald felt that he didn’t have a legitimate “heir” that he could train to replace him in the Council of Generals, and eventually, he chose Amelia Quintana for that goal.
Ulyssa and Asvald’s house is filled with beautiful, costly objects. The mermaid cooks by herself. She also greets (or sends away) her husband’s guests. Samantha Santoro met her briefly when she visited General Asvald after the staged death of Tikalie Uxmal.
