We are proud to declare that the fanfiction base on the official fansite of Mermaid Princess Amelia fantasy series, keeps growing. Currently, there are over 100 fanfictions published there, and in this article, we will look at some trends that are slowly emerging in the ever-growing fandom of Mermaid Princess Amelia.
Favorite Characters
Let’s start with readers’ favorite characters. The winner here, is obviously the titual protagonist of the series, Mermaid Princess Amelia. Runner-ups are – surprise, surprise! – her wanna-be love interests: Taisuke, Tony and also Jet Mir. Among other popular characters are Kamadia and Utau. Why those two? Well, Kamadia, is quite an interesting character, with her fire powers, angry boyfriend, and unjust imprisonment at the mausoleum. As for Utau, he’s one of readers’ favorite dateable options from the royal court in Antemidia.
Least Favorite Characters
As for the least popular characters, if we remove gods, demons, and episodic characters (who are just challenging to write about, as there’s little information on them), we’re left with… Nubia and Luiz. We were astonished, cause, these two characters are actually kind, and there’s plenty of information about them. Apparently though, they just aren’t considered that interesting. Hopefully, they’ll get more fanfiction after the release of the story collection from Amelia’s world (which is in the works).
Favorite Couples
After analyzing characters, let’s move on to couples. Five most popular straight couples on Mermaids’ Underground are: 1. Amelia and Taisuke, 2. Amelia and Tony, 3. Kamadia and Hansuke, 4. Edith and Jet Mir, and 5. Amelia and Utau. Why these couples? Well, probably because, they’re the most probable ones, and also, the easiest ones to write.
As for the LGBT couples, there just aren’t enough fanfictions yet, to draw any conclusions, but there are more lesbian couples than gay ones. Still, Taisuke and Jayden, have currently most fanfictions.
Most popular place of action
Regarding favorite place of action, the vast majority of fanfictions take place in Santa Ana, Portugal. This makes sense, as that town is where most characters appear together. But, there are also at least twenty fanfictions about Antemidia.
Most most popular theme
The most popular theme so far, are chapter continuations. Several stories explore interactions that could’ve happened between the main characters, and different development of focal action points. Second most popular theme, is romance. Close are mermaid activities, and if this category was merged with stories that take place at the sea, it’d probably be the most popular theme.
Final Thoughts
We are very curious how these trends, are going to change. Well, only time can tell!
