Cosplaying is a fun and creative way of expressing your love for a specific character from the Mermaid Princess Amelia fantasy series. It’s also a great way to meet new people and share your passion!
However, seasoned cosplayers will tell you that the great cosplay isn’t just about having the perfect outfit, or planning everything in advance. Cosplay is an art, just like acting.
Most students had theater classes at some point in schools. However, if you are completely green, or feel that your acting art could improve, read this interview with Ornella Cerro, the Italian voice of Mermaid Princess Amelia Quintana. You can learn a lot from her.
When you cosplay a character, it’s very similar to playing a theater role. It’s crucial to really get to know the character, so that you can properly portray them on your own. You don’t want to be the person who shows up to a convention in full costume, and everyone is like ‘are you sure you are this character’? That would be very disappointing!
So, do spend time to get to know the character and their personality. Research the smallest details about their appearance, likes and behavior, so you can step into the role like a professional.
Don’t just sit around: have a plan on what you’re going to do. If you are cosplaying Lumina Mond, you shouldn’t remain in one place for too long, and answer everybody’s questions. Stay silent and defiant, give vague answers, and try to leave the cosplay room frequently, so that everyone can see you’re really on a mission.
Similarly, if you’re cosplaying Jet Mir, you should know at least some things about submarines, and different seas, to be able to carry a proper conversation. And if you’re cosplaying Amelia, don’t forget to style your speech using her famous “For Sal-An-Syon’s Sake!” and “For Antemidian Pantheon!” That’s a surefire way to make her sound like an Antemidian.
Last but not least, prepare to get weary. Cosplaying as a mermaid is no easy feat. Even if you don’t swim, you will need to walk around in the costume for hours, wearing heavy jewelry and carrying props around.
Still, it will be worth it at the end of the day when you get to have fun with other friends cosplaying characters from Mermaid Princess Amelia. Maybe you can even re-enact some scenes from the novel! Just be careful not to do dangerous things.
PS: If you adore making mermaid cosplay, consider becoming a professional mermaid model or aquarium entertainer. It may be a nice side gig to do during summer, if you live at the seaside!
