Mermaids’ Underground in Santa Ana as described in “Mermaid Princess Amelia and the Lost Symphony” by Maxine Foti
I believe that there weren’t any articles about the mermaids’ undergrounds, so, here comes one.
In one of the chapters of “Mermaid Princess Amelia and the Lost Symphony,” Amelia states that the ‘Underground’ is a “secret organization for mermaids and tritons who live on land.” She means it in general; from other brief quotations in the book, you can learn that there are many more than just one ‘Underground.’ Mermaid communities in Tokyo and Chicago have them too; I didn’t write it in the novel, but it’s self-explanatory. The Clearwater Motel in Chicago obviously makes part of the city’s Underground.
But let’s return to Santa Ana’s Mermaid Underground, as that’s the one you’ve got most information about. Its managers are Darren Klar and Knossa Oligaris, and they can help with mermaid documents. The Sea-Land Post, is also related to the Underground, even though, it wasn’t stated explicitly. And the same goes for the voluntary division that protects mermaid princesses on land that Jayden Katharos is part of.
Another task performed by the Underground, is helping organize expat meetings. Taisuke Hayama mentioned once that he attended one. This gave him a chance to learn more about the mysterious and haunted Sambath Interestingly, this meeting was held in all of Portuguese Undergrounds, which gives you a hint that there’s more than one mermaid community in that country.
Interestingly, after accusing Amelia of artifact theft, Davika decided she was going to report it to the Underground. This shows a great level of trust into the community.
After writing over 70% of the second novel, I can tell you that the subplot of the Underground will be developed much more in the second novel of the series, “Mermaid Princess Amelia and the Destiny’s Theater.” But no spoilers!
