Name: Hansuke Hayama
Mermaid kingdom: His mother and twin brother Taisuke belong to a colony of Sambath, in Seto Inland Sea. However, Hansuke doesn’t have merman genes. He’s human just like his father.
Age: 18 years old.
Occupation: High school student in Santa Ana.
Looks as human: Hansuke is so similar to his twin brother, Taisuke, that most people can’t tell apart the two, at least, not at the first glance. However, there are some subtle differences between the two. Hansuke has dark-red hair and chestnut-brown eyes (Taisuke’s hair is black with crimson glow, and his hair is thunderstorm grey). Amelia meets Hansuke in the middle of the sea so he’s just wearing swimming shorts. For this reason, it’s difficult to know what’s his style. However, it’s certainly more rebellious than Taisuke’s, who dresses rather conservatively.
Personality: Hansuke has an arrogant personality, and he’s difficult to deal with, especially when he’s upset. He’s prejudiced towards his twin brother, calling him a loser. It looks though, that he’s just frustrated with his girlfriend’s disappearance.
Interests: Unknown.
Best friends: Unknown. However, it’s highly likely that his best friend is simply his girlfriend Kamadia. When he sees her again, he hugs her and lifts her in the air. It’s the only moment when he shows a softer side.
In “Stories from the Undersea World of Mermaid Princess Amelia, Vol. 2”
Taisuke’s twin brother, who is fully human and insanely jealous of Taisuke’s merman abilities, particularly his capacity to breathe underwater. This envy manifests as relentless bullying, which includes taunting, name-calling, and destroying Taisuke’s possessions whenever their parents are not around. Hansuke is also prone to drowning, unlike his brother. His actions are described as creating a “toxic dynamic” that causes Taisuke immense suffering, leading him to feel miserable and even have suicidal thoughts. Their parents attempt to mediate, but Hansuke is clever enough to continue his abuse in secret, turning Taisuke’s life into a “real nightmare.”
Trivia:
- Edith knew Hansuke, but she had no idea that he had a twin brother and was surprised when Amelia first spoke about Taisuke.
- Hansuke has a bad habit of saying “girl” at the end of nearly each sentence, which makes him appear as even more rude than he already is.
- When Amelia asked Hansuke to respect Taisuke more, Hansuke instantly concluded, she had a crush on him.
- Hansuke hates karate because he considers it not only old-fashioned, but also useless.
