Walentyna Zielinska is a character from Mermaid Princess Amelia fantasy series by Maxine Foti. She made her first appearance in the “Stories from the Undersea World of Mermaid Princess Amelia.”
Walentyna Zielinska is the mermaid queen of Bursztynia. She is the mother of Sawa and Mewa Zielinska, and the sister of Anastazja Zielinska-Gwiazda.
Unlike her sister Anastazja, who was always looking forward to have fun and enjoy life, Walentyna is a strict, dutiful woman focused mostly on her kingdom’s matters. She’s one of few merpeople from the world of Mermaid Princess Amelia, that resent humans and believe that they disrespect the mermaids’ world boundaries (and steal from it).
Sawa definitely didn’t have an easy childhood with her mother. When her aunt Anastazja and her husband (who were living on land) gifted her a bike, Queen Walentyna scared her daughter, so that she’d never try riding it.
Queen Walentyna also demanded absolute perfection from Sawa, and often looked at her wondering what she could nitpick at, to help her daughter become better.
For the mermaid’s sixteen birthday, the queen organized a ball, the focal point of which was an amber tree, meant to stun all the guests. She also gifted Sawa an amber ring, one that Sawa still wore, when Amelia first met her in “Mermaid Princess Amelia and the Lost Symphony.”
The ring opened a secret passage in the temple of mermaid princess Salomea Zielinska, which led to the palace’s cellar, where the decorative elements making the famous Amber Chamber, were stored.
When Sawa decided to move to Gdynia, her mother didn’t want to hear a word about it, and Sawa had to argue with her. As time passed by, and Sawa started living like her aunt Anastazja, her relationship with her mother worsened.
Little is known about the relationship between the queen and her younger daughter, Mewa. But since Mewa eventually chose to live with Sawa, it’s likely that their relationship wasn’t great, either.
