Sha Mir Madhu in “Stories from the Undersea World of Mermaid Princess Amelia, Vol. 1”
Sha Mir Madhu is a character from Mermaid Princess Amelia fantasy series by Maxine Foti. He made his first appearance in “Stories from the Undersea World of Mermaid Princess Amelia.”
Sha Mir Madhu is the a young merman from the Honey Earth. He was described as having mid-length feathery black hair, and a yellow tail with blue speckles. He typically wore a black kurta with lots of translucent, golden shawls.
Sha Mir is son of the maharaja of Honey Earth, Shri Mir Madhu, who is also Jet Mir Thakur’s maternal uncle. This makes him Jet Mir’s first cousin. The age difference between the two is three years.
Sha Mir’s mother is the new queen of the Honey Earth, Shanaya Mia Khanda-Madhu. Sha Mir also has a younger sister named Shafia Mia Madhu.
Since both of his parents had their own children earlier, Sha Mir also has two step-sisters: Lipika Mia Madhu (on his father’s side) and Kashvi Chari (on his mother’s side). Sha Mir wasn’t close to Lipika, and he probably didn’t know about Kashvi’s existence, either; at least, not until Kashvi went to look for her mother, Shanaya Mia Khanda-Madhu.
Sha Mir’s mother tried very hard to get him and her daughter Shafia Mia, to become the next rulers of the Honey Earth. However, Sha Mir wasn’t even remotely interested in it. He strongly believed that he should leave that to Jet Mir.
Sha Mir was in love with his mother’s court servant, Rasheeda. She was seen once, drawing him a tattoo on the nape. When Jet Mir accidentally saw that, he criticized Sha Mir for having a serious romantic relationship with a woman not of his rank. After Sha Mir explained to him that she was special, Jet Mir stopped criticizing him.
On the day of the Mrigatrishna City Massacre, Sha Mir was supposed to make a statement saying that he wasn’t going to be the next maharaja. He was nervous before doing it and had a sore throat from practicing, so he asked his cousin Jet Mir to lend him his shawl. Neither him nor Jet Mir knew that the shawl was meant to tell the assassins who was going to be the massacre’s main victim. As a result, Sha Mir got stabbed in the place of Jet Mir, which nearly cost him his life.
When Sha Mir’s mother saw the assassin approaching him, she shouted “not him!” but it was too late. Sha Mir was stabbed. Terrified, Rasheeda swam forward, but the new queen pushed her away. Unable to contain her feelings, Rasheeda sang a mermaid lament of undying love for her beloved Sha Mir.
Seeing that all happen in front of him, Jet Mir developed chronic post traumatic stress disorder. He couldn’t stop blaming himself for what happened to Sha Mir, and became fixated on the idea that it was his fault, because he gave him his shawl. After fleeing on the submarine, Jet Mir was very miserable. He had severe anxiety and paranoia, with bouts of derealisation and numbness.
Sha Mir and Jet Mir didn’t see each other again after Jet Mir’s exile. Still, from the letters that Jet Mir’s mother sent him (Jet Mir), it’s clear that Sha Mir never blamed him for what happened. He knew that it was the fault of his parents. After Jet Mir’s exile, he stopped speakingn to his mother for good.
Sha Mir is three years younger than Jet Mir.
Sha Mir was described as a shy and awkward merman, who would stutter and blush a lot. He often kept to himself, and his greatest hobby was keeping and observing bumblebee snails. After he recovered from the massacre, he started building a special palace for more exotic snail species in the botanical gardens of the Mrigatrishna City.

Sha Mir Madhu is briefly mentioned in Mewa’s story in the collection “Stories from the Undersea World of Mermaid Princess Amelia, Vol. 2” to the Mermaid Princess Amelia fantasy series by Maxine Foti.
He is described as Jet Mir’s cousin, who lives in the Honey Earth (where Jet Mir’s family has connections). He sends Jet Mir a package containing Lalit the royal snail, a gift from the Honey Earth breeding grounds. He is clearly someone Jet Mir trusts enough to exchange correspondence and receive family treasures from.
