Kostas Petrakis is a character from Mermaid Princess Amelia fantasy series by Maxine Foti. He made his first appearance in “Stories from the Undersea World of Mermaid Princess Amelia.”
Kostas Petrakis is a merman from the Argolic Gulf. He is probably eighhteen years old, and was described as tall and thin, with pale green tail and brushed up hair fixed with algae gel.
Kostas is a good friend of Poseyda Eos. The two lived on the same street and attended the same elementary and middle school (where Kostas met Mara Leventis, Poseyda’s friend with whom he later fell in love). After completing middle school, Kostas went to the sports school (other notable students of which were Vasilakis Madianis and Pelagia Demetriou). This means, he must have been quite good at sports.
Over time, Kostas’ father proposed to the mother of Thalassa Athanasiou (a common friend of Poseyda and Mara). The two got engaged, and to celebrate, they took their teens, Kostas, and Thalassa, to a restaurant that looked like a sunken ship from the times of Ancient Greece. Kostas and Thalassa both loved ships, and bonded over that. Thalassa told Poseyda, she looked forward to build miniature ships with him.
When Poseyda and Mara met Kostas on the Gorgons’ Day, Kostas was seen wearing a grim blue toga and a snake bangle. He was also wearing bicycle glasses to avoid being cursed. He helped Poseyda and Mara hang elective posters that the meermaid girls got from Mrs. Eos.
When Kostas confessed his love to Mara, she was shocked as she didn’t expect it, and automatically rejected him, being harsher than she would’ve liked. Later, she told Poseyda, she still wanted to speak to Kostas, but it’s not clear whether she’ll accept him or not.
Interestingly, Mara might have accidentally been using her mermaid powers of Kostas, all along. During the Gorgon’s Day, she called him with her mermaid voice, which seems to have magical qualities. Additionally, Kostas might have fallen in love with Mara because despite her being sixteen, she looked much older and also quite exotic due to her tan.
