Neylan Turkuaz is a character from Mermaid Princess Amelia fantasy series by Maxine Foti. She made her first appearance in the “Stories from the Undersea World of Mermaid Princess Amelia,” but was also briefly mentioned (without the name) in “Mermaid Princess Amelia and the Lost Symphony.”
Neylan is the mermaid princess from the Turquoise Ravines. She is a beautiful, curvy mermaid with black hair, tanned skin, and a turquoise tail, who loved wearing revealing purple dresses.
Neylan liked turquoise jewelry, belly dancing, shopping, and taking selfies. She was very generous, and gifted gifts to her friends from the Lotus State: Hiset Imhotep, Setenet Akhenaten and Nubia Khaled.
Neylan and Hiset were both energetic, extraverted troublemakers, so they got on well. The same, however, can’t be said about Neylan and Nubia. Nubia deeply disliked Neylan, who during her visit, treated her like a private servant, and laughed at her dream to become better in sports.
Despite not liking Neylan, Nubia kept wearing the turquoise bracelet with ankh charms that she got from her. She did so probably out of courtesy. After Setenet upset Nubia, Nubia lost control over her rage and destroyed the bracelet, throwing it on the floor. Setenet then gave her his, to which he attached the ankh charms that didn’t get destroyed. So, when Amelia saw the bracelet on Nubia’s wrist, when she arrived to Portugal in “The Lost Symphony,” it wasn’t exactly a gift from Neylan like she thought; it was a gift from Setenet.
Interestingly, Neylan herself felt attracted to Setenet. During her visit in Nakht-Ankh, she spent the whole evening at the Sunken Spaceship Nightclub, trying to get close to him. Later, in a private conversation with Nubia, Setenet called Neylan an octopus, and said that he was glad that she returned home.
Neylan’s surname, Turkuaz, means “turquoise” in Turkish.
