Trusting the universe is a heated topic in the Law of Attraction community, one that several people tend to struggle with. I like this topic and was curious if there were any characters in my novel who exhibited that trait. I knew for sure that Amelia was a believer, but noticing the same trait in a bunch of other characters surprised me. The novel’s pretty old, and all those years ago, I lacked many character creation skills. If someone’s in a certain way, it’s because, I felt that they were, and not because I tried to make them like it on purpose. So, who trust that life will be good for them? Let’s start with the hero.
#1 – Amelia Quintana
Amelia is a believer, but she’s capable of experiencing despair, too. In fact, she’ll often panic and grieve first, and only then, choose to have faith. I think that’s a trait she might have gotten after me, I’m this type of person. I’ll first get depressed by the circumstances and only then try to change my thinking.
This is visible when Amelia tries to rescue Araminta. At first, she thought that all was lost. But then, she decided to trust Jet Mir, after all.
As she saw Taisuke (well, Hansuke) at the bottom of the sea, she knew that the situation was bad, but nevertheless, she pulled him out of the water onto nearby rocks, and tried to reanimate him. She had faith that their story wasn’t over yet and it turned out that she was right. The guy woke up.
And last but not least, even though Amelia was very preoccupied with Leticia’s illness and Kamadia’s disappearance, she trusted that they both could be rescued. She never lost hope at the Mausoleum of Lost Symphonies. I think that returning home in chapter 13 and seeing everyone alive and well made her have faith.
#2 – Lumina Mond
Lumina is a dark and troubled character, one who doesn’t rely on others very much. She’s independent, closed off, and her faith in the world was surely ruined as her father disappeared, and her mother died. Nevertheless, Lumina never lost hope of meeting her sister Amelia (who was proclaimed as dead). She travelled a lot to find her. She trusted that the girl would be somewhere there, and then, she did everything in her might, to protect her. Well done, Lumina.
#3 – Jet Mir Thakur
Ah, what would a “Mermaid Princess Amelia” list be without the handsome and snarky captain? Jet Mir, just like Lumina, went through a lot. He was framed for a massacre that he didn’t stage, and unjustly exiled, losing everything that was dear to him. His history is actually bloody and grim, if you think about it. He could turn his back on the country, but he still hasn’t given up on it. He keeps hoping, he can win everything back. And although he fails to do so by the end of the first novel, he doesn’t give up.
His faith in the things going his way, is also visible in how he acts around Edith. Even though she’s quite formal and stern towards him, he doesn’t hesitate to show her, he still cares and hopes that they can fix what they had. He’s definitely a believer.
#4 – Hansuke Hayama
Out of the two love birds (or maybe I should say, love fishes?), Hansuke is the one who has more faith and trust in the Universe. When his girlfriend went missing, he never stopped searching for her. In fact, he nearly drowned trying to accomplish this goal. Kamadia, who was imprisoned in the mausoleum, didn’t have that much faith. She got depressed, and tried to forget about her love. She told Amelia, being hopeful cost her too much, and when you think about that, you realize, Hansuke must have really loved her deeply, to never stop hoping.
#5 – Leticia Alvarez
Leticia is one of less known characters from “…The Lost Symphony.” I described her in much detail, but fans forget about her very often, focusing on characters that appear more often, such as e.g. Nubia.
Leticia was severely ill. She didn’t have hope that she’d be cured, but she still had faith in Kamadia’s rescue. Leticia could’ve given up, thought to herself, everything was lost. Instead, she made one last effort to record a message for Amelia and ask for help. When you think of it, it’s very moving. It shows, she wouldn’t give up on her friends, until the very end.
Did you see faith in the universe in more characters? If yes, feel free to share your opinion in the comment section below!
