Like promised before, here’s a detailed interview with Ornella Cerro, famous actress who lent her voice to the Italian Mermaid Princess Amelia Quintana. If you haven’t listened to the audiobook sample with the prologue and the first chapter, you can do it here:
Ornella Cerro is an actress and acting teacher of Sicilian origins. She lives permanently in Rome and has trodden many major and important theaters, such as: Teatro Stabile of Catania, Angelo Musco Theater, Teatro dei Ginnasi, Amphitheater of Sutri, Roman Amphitheater of Volterra, Cassia Theater and many more.
The interview:
MF: Good morning and thank you for having agreed to participate in this interview!
OC: Good morning to you!
MF: I would like to ask you a couple of questions related to your professional acting experience and also to the creation of the audiobook. Here’s my first question: what made you understand that you wanted to be an actress?
OC: In adolescence, unlike my peers and friends, I didn’t really know what I wanted… I started acting in the first year of high school, mostly for fun, and the first time I set foot on the stage I realized that there was no other place where I really felt like myself, Ornella.
MF: How nice! And who is your biggest inspiration for acting?
OC: I don’t have a particular idol, but I must say that an actress I have always admired and esteemed is Franca Rame.
MF: Yes, she had a great acting career… Tell me, when you told your family that you were going to be an actress, did they support you?
OC: Yes, I was very lucky in that.
MF: I am happy to hear this. And what was your most memorable performance?
OC: I can tell you about the one that I cared about the most: ISTANBUL2011, a show against gender violence.
MF: I understand, it is a very important issue… It’s great that you stand for such causes. But what types of roles do you like the most and why?
OC: I like to experiment, so I don’t have a favorite type in particular. The comedian roles amuse me a lot.
MF: Ah, I love having a good laugh in the theater, too. And what’s the thing you love the most about acting?
OC: The magic that is created from behind the scenes to the stage is something that cannot be explained in words, it is a sensation that deeply affects you.
MF: I can imagine, it’s a bit like working on a novel from the first draft, until the final version. Was this your first experience with recording an audio book?
OC: Yes, the first time I have ventured into a job like this.
MF: Did you bond with the main character, Amelia?
OC: I must say that I felt particularly close to her. It was as if I already knew her.
MF: Very interesting… I wonder why. Could you tell us more about the registration process?
OC: It is a fairly long process, made up not only of registration but also and above all of the work that needs to be done post registration.
MF: Yes, unfortunately, editing can be very time consuming… But will you be available for recording the next chapters?
OC: Absolutely yes, one hundred percent.
MF: Fantastic! Thank you so much for your help with creating the audiobook and also for answering all the questions in the interview!
I hope to keep you all updated about the next audiobook chapters. In the meantime, make sure to follow the official social media accounts of Ornella Cerro, so that you never miss an update!
