Name: Edith Dvali.
Mermaid kingdom: The Hospitable Sea (The Black Sea).
Birthday: Not stated.
Age: Not stated, but she must be at least 16 years old, as she’s in the same class as Amelia.
Occupation: Prime minister of the Black Sea. As the prime minister of the Hospitable Sea also known as the Black Sea, Edith would give anything to have the streets of her kingdom bustling and cheerful for her kingdom is at risk of oil spillage. Interestingly, Edith holds one more function: she’s got the card of the Nations’ Supervisor. This card permits her to travel freely and take with her whomever she only wishes. It’s unclear, though, what are her duties related to it.
Looks as human: She’s of medium height and weight. She’s got bright skin, and beautiful, dark brown curls which she keeps up with a black headband. When Amelia first sees her, she wears a purple top, white jeans, and a pendant in the shape of uneven heart, representing her country. She also likes friendship bracelets, and seems very attached to her glasses, which she wears for fashion purposes.
Looks as mermaid: Edith’s tail is similar to the black betta fish: black and with long, flowy fins resembling dark fabric.

Personality: Edith is a kind-hearted, positive and caring person. She became Amelia’s first friend upon arriving in Santa Ana: she kept her company, accompanied her to several places (and missions), and even borrowed her own things. She was supportive all the time, and also forgiving. Even though she’s got a great heart, though, Edith can’t be bullied or manipulated. She will stand up for herself, which is seen in interactions with various characters (Irene or Jet Mir). She believes in justice, and can be highly formal sometimes.
Interestingly, Edith is much more reasonable than Amelia. When Amelia decides on a whim that she’ll swim to the Mausoleum of Lost Symphonies, Edith tries to stop her, saying, it would be “suicide.” Amelia does as she pleases, hiding it from Edith; Edith could get upset, but instead, she acts maturely once again, and contacts others for help. Together with Jet Mir, they inform the Global Ocean’s Army about the situation, and sail to the mausoleum, but don’t enter it to avoid danger. When Edith and Amelia meet again, Edith sends Amelia a stern look, saying, it was a “suicide mission.”
Interests: Edith seems most interested in painting. She keeps art encyclopedias in her apartment, and one of the wall has a fresco with historical records of the Black Sea. She often shops for art supplies, and gifted Amelia a portrait of Algeia, an Antemidian heroine, for her birthday. When Edith visits Antemidia, she’s mostly curious about art and architecture. She pauses to look at different things, probably searching inspiration. By the end of the novel, she also states, she wants to paint postcards with all artifacts. Her other interests are foreign languages, northern seas, and everything oriental (see trivia for more info).
Family: Surprisingly, Edith never utters a word about her family back home. Hopefully, we can learn more about it in the next novels in the series.
Best friends: Edith hangs out mostly with, Amelia, Sawa, Nubia, Davika. She was also great friends with Kamadia: she called her Kami, and knew about her relationship with Hansuke. Although it may look like, Edith is liked by everybody, it isn’t so. She calls Darsha and Kashvi her enemies, and she’s got a poor relationship with her ex friend Irene with whom she later argues. The argument greatly saddens Edith. It looks like, if there’s anything that truly hurts Edith, it’s broken friendship, and when people misunderstand her intentions, taking her for the enemy.
Love interest: Edith’s love interest is Jet Mir, the exiled prince and submarine captain. They used to be really close, he even gave her an affectionate nickname, Edha (“sacred” in Hindi). Interestingly, Edith is not a fan of showing her feelings publicly. This can be seen in how she asks Lara, how she could kiss her boyfriend in a restaurant, in front of everybody. However, she seems to enjoy gossiping with Lara about romance-related stuff.

Trivia:
- When introducing herself as a plain girl, Edith tells Amelia, she’s from Georgia. She tells her about Tbilisi (the capital) and offers khachapuri, which is a traditional cheese bread from that region.
- Edith’s mother tongue is probably Georgian, however, because Black Sea is surrounded by several different countries, it’s highly likely, she speaks also other languages.
- Apparently, languages are a huge hobby of hers, as in the novel, we hear her speak also in English, Portuguese, German and Oceanian.
- Edith has an interest in northern seas, among them Scottish Sea and Nerland. She’s familiar with Garabel Haldane, and Jet Mir states, she knows everything about Nerland, too.
- Edith read Lumina’s diary, and was supposed to translate it, but because she didn’t find anything off in it, she eventually gave up on that goal.
- Edith has an interest in everything oriental. Her apartment has slightly eastern décor with boho poufs, ethnic sheets and other clutter. It’s highly likely, she got those items from Jet Mir, but might have also brought them from home (Turkey is one of the countries surrounding Black Sea). It’s highly probable, Edith and Jet Mir clicked exactly because, she had contact with oriental influences much earlier.
- Edith has got a sweet tooth. She loves Brazilian lemonade and chocolate cake.
- Edith lives alone and she’s on good terms with Linda, the tenement owner.
