The relationship between Edith and Jet Mir is one of the most intriguing ones in “Mermaid Princess Amelia and the Lost Symphony.” Having accepted Jet Mir’s mission, Amelia was forced to eventually turn against Edith. She was convinced that the two were sworn enemies, but then, it turned out that they knew each other very well – they were very close friends, almost a couple.

Did you see it coming? There were important hints on the way. Jet Mir knew, where Edith lived, and he purposely made Amelia her neighbor. Also, as Amelia searched through Edith’s apartment, she found a ton of oriental things in different, which we can assume, were either gifts from Jet Mir, or items she had bought as they were close. Among those items were boho poufs, ethnic sheets and oriental shampoo bottles.

Later, after Edith learned that Amelia was working for Jet Mir, she admitted, she knew him well and that they “had romantic feelings for each other.” She stated that they’d “always hang out together” and could “talk and laugh for hours.”

However, when Amelia asked her if Davika knows, Edith denied having said anything. Edith added though, Davika was clever and when one likes the other person, it was difficult to hide it, so Davika probably knew.

Edith and Jet Mir’s friendship (relationship?) was broken, as Edith’s clique refused to support the poor prince and help him with artifacts.

Later on, when Edith and Jet Mir saw each other again, Amelia stated that they “hugged each other” and that seeing them reconcile, brought her relief. This proves, Amelia is probably not in love with Jet Mir, although some readers are die-hard fans of Amelia getting together with him. You can read different theories about Amelia’s love interests here.

What about Jet Mir’s feelings, though?

It looks like, he still cares about Edith a lot. Whenever he is around her, he looks at her with so much affection and adoration, it’s impossible not to notice. Even though he speaks to the whole group, he keeps looking at Edith. He even calls her with a nickname, “Edha,” which means “sacred” and points out to how much he reveres her.

We also see them exchange a small romantic gesture as he picks a strand of her hair and put it behind her ear, something he had never done around Amelia or anybody.

But Edith’s quite wary around him; she acts overly formal, and makes sure that the conflict regarding artifacts, is solved, before she finally relaxes. Then, she asks Jet Mir, why he grew his hair, stating, she preferred him in a short haircut.

In the next scene, when Edith reunites with an old friend now living in Chicago, Irene criticizes her for giving away artifacts and also for her hopeless feelings for Jet Mir. At that point, Edith responds, she doesn’t help him out of love, but because of justice and adds, Jet Mir doesn’t deserve his fate.

This shows, Edith’s caring for Jet Mir, goes beyond her own feelings, and that she acknowledges his suffering, and would probably help him anyways, even if she didn’t love him.

The beauty of Edith’s personality shines in several scenes of the novel: she’s caring, selfless and just, a model friend and loyal girlfriend.

Later, when Lara pushes Amelia, to ask about her feelings for Taisuke, Edith states her feelings for Jet Mir once again, saying: “I couldn’t admit to myself that I liked Jet Mir either,” which is yet another confirmation, how much she cares for him.

By the end of the novel, those star crossed lovers teamed up to travel to the Mausoleum of Lost Symphonies. After being freed and leaving the medic’s tent, Amelia saw them chatting, and as Jet Mir confronted Lumina about the theft of artifacts, Edith laughed at his anger, which shows, she isn’t always that formal, and sometimes, she’s got a playful personality, too.

We don’t know, though, if they got back together, or not. And actually, we can’t even be sure, if they were ever together, in the first place. Edith and Jet Mir don’t call each other “exes.” It’s highly probable, that their relationship balanced on the thin line between friends and lovers, and as soon as something started, it was ruined by the conflict related to artifacts.

Readers are hoping to get more scenes with the two in the second novel in the series, “Mermaid Princess Amelia and the Destiny’s Theater.” However, it looks like, there are quite many obstacles that need to be solved. First of all,

Jet Mir always surrounds himself with women – even if it looks like he’s chosen Edith, we can’t know, if it won’t change, eventually. Edith could fall in love with someone else, too. They don’t see each other often, as he’s always travelling, and trying to find a way, to return home. Is he ever going to win back the throne, and is there anything, she could do, to support him in the process? Those are all very good questions. What do you think?
