The Amundsen Sea: The Land of Sunset Colors

The Amundsen Sea, located between Cape Flying Fish and Cape Dart and named after Roald Amundsen, represents one of the most visually striking regions in the mermaid world. The sea surface is covered with ice, creating a strange experience like swimming in a giant ice tunnel or igloo, though the ice is melting as the climate warms. The cold temperatures combine with incredibly strong sun during the austral summer, creating a dramatic environment where the merpeople possess sunset-colored appearances with tropical allure. Their tails resemble the night sky with hues of deep blue and purple, adorned with violet and pink glitters like stardust, while their pale skin and eyes shimmer with a pinkish-red glow like a saturated sunset. Mermaid hair displays a vibrant mix of orange and brown transitioning into beautiful shades of pink, while mermen’s hair has subtler tones.

Prince Zeke, the ruler of this sea, is well-educated, impeccably mannered, and quick-witted, but his significant character flaw—a penchant for gambling—has led to catastrophic consequences. Six months ago, he recklessly wagered his sister, Princess Zehna, in a drunken card game with Prince Rubin of the Ross Sea, losing the bet and allowing Rubin to take Zehna. Zeke’s popularity plummeted after this incident, and he now feels remorseful and desperate to rectify his blunder. His plan to search for buried treasure in Tierra del Fuego as a bargaining chip to win Zehna back places him in direct conflict with Jet Mir, who was also seeking the same treasure for the Global Ocean’s Council. The sea’s unique beauty and its ruler’s tragic flaw create a setting defined by both visual splendor and personal failure.
