Problems that Mermaid Kingdoms face in “Mermaid Princess Amelia And The Lost Symphony” by Maxine Foti

Written by Mermaid Priscila

“Mermaid Princess Amelia and the Lost Symphony” is a novel that describes several mermaid kingdoms, and all face some challenge, just like any country on Earth.

But what are those challenges? You could ask. Let’s begin with Antemidia. It’s located in the Caribbean Sea and is divided into three rings: the outer, middle, and inner ring. If you read carefully, you’ll realize that those in the inner rings were basically of a higher class than those in the external rings. This shows an economic divide and inequality between the rich and the poor that’s plaguing Amelia’s country.

Next, there’s the Thai Pearl Empire; a mermaid state found in the Gulf of Thailand. The Thai Pearl Empire has trade unions with many other countries. While this has several advantages, it has caused so many problems for it. In fact, the empire currently faces an influx of cheap goods from the Coral Sea, which has ruined their home economy.

The Black Sea is another mermaid country facing lots of problems. Most of the mermaids in this state are not happy with the atmosphere in the Black Sea. They cannot leave their homes on some days because of ships digging oil wells and extracting oil.

Next, the Land of Mu has faced really many challenges over the years. It is said that it was swept away by a terrible earthquake. However, there is no geological evidence to back it up. The history of the mermaid world in the novel about Mermaid Princess Amelia, tells the readers that there were only two mermaid countries in the beginning: Mu and Sambath. Mu was a large empire that covered a vast part of the globe. However, Mu and Sambath began to lose their powers as newer countries began to spring up, and those giant countries ceased to exist, leaving behind colonies. This shows that nothing’s eternal, and even the greatest empires are meant to fall one day, due to their internal problems.

Moving on, the Southern Baltic is another country with internal probles. It has faced the mass migration of the younger population. This is because the ruling family has paid greater attention to the needs of the aging population in society, ignoring the youngsters. As a result, the situation led to an enormous depopulation crisis as most workforce has left for other favorable countries. All attempts to remedy the migration population have failed, and eventually, even both princesses left that region, not wanting to keep arguing with their parents.

In what ways do you think some of these problems can be resolved? You can write your answer in the comment section if you think that you have a solution!
