Written by Mermaid Priscila
“Mermaid Princess Amelia and the Lost Symphony” is a novel with many characters, some of whom bonded over time and some of whom became sworn enemies. A part of these characters dislike each other so much that they don’t even realize that they have so much in common.
AMELIA AND GENERAL AALONA
If you pay close attention to the novel, you will notice that some tension exists between Mermaid Princess Amelia and General Aalona. General Aalona is among the three generals ruling in Antemidia, and everyone seems to be afraid of her. Not much is known about her, except that she was controlling and always tried to be involved in Amelia’s life. Maybe because Amelia is the elective princess, but perhaps because… General Aalona loves Antemidia just as much as Amelia? Their patriotism, and ambition, is something that definitely unites them. Additionally, General Aalona has a ruthless quality to herself and so does Amelia, which can be seen in her love for martial arts.
LUMINA AND SAMANTHA
Lumina turned rebellious when she ran away from home to search for her sister, whom she felt was not dead, and also traveled far and wide to get the artifacts to unlock the guardian plates to avenge her mother. Samantha had left Atlantis to Antemidia as a scholarship student. But we learn later in the book that there is more to her presence in Antemidia. This shows that even though Lumina and Samantha dislike each other, they have something in common – both aren’t afraid to travel long distances and can organize themselves well to get whatever they want.
IRENE AND EDITH
Irene is from the Kara Sea, and she lived in Santa Ana for a while before relocating to Chicago. Irene and Edith used to be friends, but their friendship broke after an argument. Unlike Edith, Irene refused to give Jet Mir her artifact. Even though they are no longer friends, both these girls agree on one thing: they wouldn’t make any sacrifices for love. And this can be seen in the scene where Irene asked Edith if she was helping Jet Mir because of love, and Edith told her no.
TAISUKE AND HANSUKE
Taisuke and Hansuke are twin brothers, and one would think that they have a lot in common. However, these two are different in every way, when their personalities are taken into consideration. As a result, they deeply dislike each other, which is revealed in the scene where Amelia saves Hansuke from drowning. However, the two boys have more in common than it initially seems. None of them feels particularly close to the sea world. Hansuke hates that he is not a merman; Taisuke is one, but has an inferiority complex due to being born in a colony of Sambath. So, both have trouble feeling comfortable in the waters. Nevertheless, they are both attracted to mermaid girls – Hansuke to Kamadia, and Taisuke to Amelia.
KAMADIA AND KOLTHIDA
Finally, let us look at Kamadia and Kolthida. Kamadia is Kolthida’s direct descendent. They were both from the same country, Kingdom of One Thousand Jewels. Both of them had suffered from the same situation at the Mausoleum, and they had both given up trying to change it. The only difference between them was that Kolthida did it a very long time ago, and Kamadia, only recently.
Interesting, wasn’t it? “Mermaid Princess Amelia and the Lost Symphony” is a novel so complex that the analysis of it, never really ends – there’s always something more to discover. If you’re looking for a mermaid novel with a high re-read value, pick this one!
