Stories from the Undersea World of Mermaid Princess Amelia, Vol. 1 is a short story collection containing colorful, detail-rich, and culturally diverse mermaid tales by Maxine Foti. As a sequel to Mermaid Princess Amelia and the Lost Symphony, it adds an additional layer of depth to the earlier novel, further developing its characters and the mermaids’ world. Are you ready to dive in?
The adventure begins in the Caribbean Sea. There, you will accompany the legendary mermaid princess of Antemidia, Tikalie (and her two friends, Lumina and Samantha) to the Gulf of Honduras. You’re going to find a mysterious bird talisman and discover the true reason behind Tikalie’s staged death. Later, you will help General Asvald seek a teenaged mermaid to replace her. You are going to reminisce about his youth and first love and participate in a meeting of the Antemidian Council of Generals. You will also spend some time with the newly chosen princess, Amelia Quintana, and grow acquainted with her challenges.
The next point of the journey is the Hospitable Sea, filled with dark and sumptuous oriental buildings. There, you will visit Edith, who, despite being one of the kindest characters from The Lost Symphony, is also one of the most mysterious. You will learn about her fears, joys, and inspirations, why she calls the city of Tbilisi her home, and who were her best friends before she moved to Portugal.
Afterward, you will move to Delshad, a small state located in the Persian Gulf. If you were ever curious about Saliffa, now you have an opportunity to meet her. She is the shah’s youngest daughter, whose dream of studying mathematics in the Arabian Sea has been thwarted at the last minute… for reasons she’s yet to discover.
Heading south across the Indian Ocean, you will travel to the Honey Earth, a mermaid kingdom teeming with gold, jewels, and… blood. Are you ready to find out what Captain Jet Mir was like before his exile and to meet his family and cousins? Do you want to uncover the truth about his sisters and visit the Bermuda Triangle with him? It’s the best time to do it!
On a side note, his stumbling across a poem written by Poland’s national bard wasn’t an accident—it heralds the next story, which will take you to Bursztynia, an undersea kingdom located in the quasi-depopulated Southern Baltic. In order to secure a family legacy, Sawa must complete a series of tasks required by her aunt, a controversial traveler. During this adventure, Sawa will study marine engineering, become a punk singer, fall in love, and do much more—even climb a volcano (or two)!
After saying goodbye to Sawa, it’s time for a trip to the Lotus State, an intriguing mermaid country filled pyramids, temples, and bazaars. There, you’ll help Nubia get the mermaid pharaoh Hiset out of her latest troubles and learn something interesting about the fearsome god of storms and deserts as well.
Last but not least, you are going to visit the Argolic Gulf and accompany Poseyda and her friends to their undersea high school. You’ll marvel at the subjects they learn and what mermaids and mermen can do after completing their education. You are also going to discover new, fantastical mermaid inventions and take part in the mysterious ritual organized in the honor of Medusa.
And that’s not everything! The collection introduces much novelty too: a cast of over 70 new characters, 16 new (some only briefly mentioned) mermaid kingdoms, and lots of other eye-opening trivia about the mermaid world. This collection will take you to a world you’d never imagined was possible, and the time to start the journey is now, so don’t hesitate. Get a copy and dive in!
