The sea is a cauldron filled with unknowns, a treasure box brimming with secrets and mysteries that always captivated mankind. The greatest of these unknowns, is not the sunken Titanic, not what lies at the base of the Mariana Trench or the amount of species yet to be discovered… But the incredible amounts of myths and legends about civilizations and countries lying beneath the waters.

Since ancient times; such as the archaic period of Ancient Greece, humans have discussed and suspected the existence of mermaids; fearing and admiring them for their magical powers, as well as their hypnotic and sensual voice…

In “Mermaid Princess Amelia” fantasy series, the inhabitants of the depths have populated human myths and legends, without people even imagining that they are real, and that under the sea there are even more nations than on land!

It is no coincidence that mankind in series remains ignorant about the existence of mermaids. These creatures  are very wary and shy, and don’t feel thrilled by the idea of making themselves known to humans.

There are exceptions to this rule, though. Greek mermaids allowed themselves to be seen, and sometimes seduced humans. This earned them a somewhat controversial fame in the eyes of all mermaids in the world.

Overall, though, there’s the trend that mermaids hide. A prominent case worth mentioning, occurred in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries of human history. Amelia recalls that at this time, humans began their colonial expansion, which caused a massive panic in many underwater states and some countries had to ban magical practices so common in their culture in order to minimize the risk of attracting attention of the ships.

To such a degree do mermaids fear being discovered by humans!

“Hidden in plain sight” might be the perfect way to define the dynamic under which mermaids from all over the world interact with people on the surface. On land, mermaids are perfectly mistaken for humans, perhaps drawing attention to their striking eyes or hair color, but still standing on very real legs. They easily pass for ordinary people, mingling with them easily.

This could only be possible, though, thanks to certain secret organizations for mermaids such as the Underground. The one in Santa Ana, Portugal, is managed by Darren Klar and Knossa Oligaris, who’s in charge of helping mermaids during their stay on earth with legal documents. There is also the Sea-Land Post, an underwater mail organization that sends and receives letters and packages, serving as an intermediary between the mermaids on land and those in the sea.
